I wonder what position will get picked out the Charlie Mulgrew sweepstake this time.

He is a centre half, and an excellent one at that.

Ah I want Mulgrew in that team somewhere but I don't think I could break up cb pairing, I don't think he can do a better job than Ledley/Izzy.

If Wilson is fit he will be in place of Ambrose.

I would put my house on it.

Aye, as Neil has said, Wilson is No.1 Centre Half at the minute. :50:

Stokes is quite good as the lone striker up front when asked to play that role, better than Hooper ever was in that role actually. Once we put in a good shift we have the class to get the better of this lot.

On the counter attack - switching it to a 4-2-3-1

I can't see Sammy playing out wide-right. Matthews got some minutes yesterday, with a view to him playing on Wed I think. Maybe go for something like this:

    Forster

    Lustig Mulgrew Wilson Izzy
    Matthews Brown Ledley Boerrigter
    Commons
    Samaras

    or

    Forster

    Lustig Mulgrew Wilson Izzy
    Brown Ambrose Ledley Samaras
    Commons
    Stokes

The only problem might be having 2 left-footed CH's; at least I think Wilson is left-footed. Also no James Forrest, though we would be looking to hit them on the break. Unless we try and hold it tight 1st half and unleash Forrest and Watt 2nd half for the pace.. ?

Pretty sure Wilson's right footed. He's terrible when he playseft sided CB.

It's got to be mulgrew and Wilson at the back for me!

    Hail Hail

I like both your options, as long as we don't play 5 in midfield - I think were much better than that. Another option is pushing for an early away goal and then switching to a more counter attacking style as half time approaches.
I can see us getting a lot of free-kicks and corners from hitting them on the break though - should be a few chances for us!

It's difficult to tell how Elfsborg will set up, bearing in mind they don't want to concede an away goal.

If all fit I'd go for:

    .....................Forster

    Lustig...Ambrose...Wilson...Izzy

    .............Brown.......Ledley........

    Forrest.....Commons.......Boerrigter

    ................Sammy................
