Probably true actually :50: Though it's a different ball park when the player involved is a free agent I guess! No room for the board to be stingy over a transfer fee, which more often than not seems to be the stumbling block.

We spent 6 mill on Sutton, Lennon and Hartson.

Won the Treble and got to a European final.

yes, but 5 years later we had a team of 30 year olds on 30 grand a week with no sell on value.

    Loved them all, including O'Neill.

However **controversial** we could have gotten so much better.

The market was not over-inflated the way it is today. With a £30 million transfer budget back then, it would be like having £60 million today - maybe more. We could have easily bought abroad much cheap for the same quality or paid the same and got better.

Not to mention every single one of them were spoiled rotten and used to their hefty wages due to their time in the EPL.

That surely couldn't be true. If you take into account that Amido Balde cost that and in the words of Neil Lennon "is raw", then we must surely be paying more that for an established and proven goalscorer....Yet I wouldn't put it past the ignorance of our board

Well if that's the case we might as well pack our bags now. Werder Bremen put in a bid of €4m and Augsburg put in €4.5m. Both of which were rejected.

If we've gone in with €6m, I think we'll start talking

    Yep , me too.
I look back on my life and I've been at my happiest in life when we are at our best, the 90's were * , in football terms and in life but from 2000 up until 2005 was amazing, I look back at that team and I'm in awe of it. I dare to think what might have been if we went through the CL group stages on 9 points. Quarters? Semi's? Beans on toast coupon McLeish manage to quAlify with 7 points!!!!! O'Neil , I think managed 9 points 3 times ?
Best 5 years since we won the double in our centenary year.

Agree mate. We were very unlucky. If it were not for a few off moments, we could have went to the last 16. I dare say we could have went to at least the semi's. Celtic were a match for anyone at CP.

Just the once. 9 points in 2001, 7 points in 2003, 5 points in 2004, so we actually declined in Champions League performance each time under Martin O'Neill.

Every time I turn around, someone's claiming we made a LOWER bid than the one before. FFS that's no way to negotiate- Lawwell's lost the head!:smiley-laughing002:
