International sides you like/dislike

    Right, this isn't a thread about whether you support your own country, or even countries you support because of people in your family. I'm more asking if there's random international sides you root for in tournaments, despite having no connection? Us Scot's have to find someone else to support once every two years anyway, so we're experienced in this.

    When it comes to teams that could in theory win things, I normally get behind The Netherlands or Argentina. The Dutch thing is possibly because as a Hibby I can relate to them having that one holy grail trophy they always come close to winning but never do, so I know how much winning it would mean. I think their accents are shocking though (no offence if any Dutch people read this). Argentina's fans seem pretty cool, so they get my support.

    As for the rest, Swede's seem cool so I like to see them win, same with Poland. I used to have a soft spot for Croatia but their arrogant comments before the Scotland game killed that. For obvious reasons I like seeing England and the US * up, and for some reason that goes for France too.

    Thoughts?

    I enjoy watching Chile, Equador and Belgium. Cant stand denmark, Holland & England for unknown reasons!

    I really like Uruguay, for such a small nation with a small population they do really well at major tournaments and have produced some top class players.

    As an Italian, I don't really have to support another international side from 2 years, but when it comes to the South American football, I support Uruguay. They're such a brave and admirable team, and also because my great grandfather changed to Uruguay in his last days.

    In Europe, I also support Scotlando, of course, and Holland when Italy lost.

    They're the country, that statisticaly produce more players in the world.

    Really? Thought that would be Brazil tbh, they have a lot of players abroad and they can be found in nearly every country

    Bigot.

    This will seem odd seen as I say I root for the Dutch, but I'd actually like this Germany team to win something. I find them way more exciting to watch than Spain, so they deserve something I think. I wouldn't say this to friends, seen as I haven't stopped ripping my mate since he told me he had a soft spot for Newcastle and Sunderland.

    Slightly off topic but imagine if Yugoslavia was still one nation and the squad they would have. They'd be at least definite contenders for major tournaments imo

    Just out of interest, what reason do the people who said The Netherlands have for disliking them? I'm not criticising them in any way for picking them, I'm just genuinely interested to find out why some people dislike them? The Dutch seem pretty inoffensive to me.

    People probably dislike them for their style of play at the last World Cup, or the antics of Robben.

    I just dislike them as I'm a big fan of Germany. :smiley-laughing002:

    Uruguay has a population of just over 3 million while Brazil has a population of 193 million. Brazil has more players because it's ridiculously big, while Uruguay is tiny. Uruguay is amazing when you considered it's population. It's by far the smallest member of CONMEBOL.
