Commons was the worst player on the park. In fact, Samaras is the only player who played well. Defenders were terrible - back heeling in the box, falling over the ball and losing possession in dangerous areas.

We couldn't pass. Our movement was non-existent.

Worst performance I've seen in a long while.

But I'm delighted with the result.

Nah I agree with the most part mate. Although while Commons' set pieces in the 1st half were awful, and his dive was pathetic, I thought he was a lot more creative and productive than Stokes and at least as much as Forrest. Plus he scored the goal. You're spot on with about the defence. Lustig was solid enough but Ambrose, Wilson and Izaguirre were bomb scares at differing times in the 1st half. Some quality signings needed urgently.

Stokes & Kayal were our worst players...did absolutely nothing during the whole match...and Stokes decision making and touch was poor.
Forrest was * too, did not do much damage to Elfsborg on the right wing....and not once did he manage to put in a decent cross.
I slightly disagree about Commons though...he was decent, not the best we've seen him but not the worse player on the night! Wasted a lot of set pieces and had poor touches here and there but he did get our goal so he more than makes up for his efforts:smiley-laughing002:

The most boring game I've seen in a long time. Too negative and lack of creativity from midfield.

 

Don't get this "Commons bashing". Thought he had a good game, although he faded towards the end.

 

Boy do we need a striker. We need cover for Wanyama too. It's gonna be tight over their but we've done well to at least get a result. An away goal kills the tie.

 

I actually thought Commons and Samaras were our two best players on the night. They were always looking to create something whenever they had the ball. I thought Stokes & Forrest were both vitually invisible, and Kayal was poor in possession. Forrest looked like he had the beating of his man early doors, and then when he got him booked, it was the perfect chance to run at him all night and try and force the left back in to committing another foul that warranted a card. But he vanishes, and it's all too often on the big stage for me. But Lennon seems to point blank refuse to take him off.

Once we got the goal last night, I would have took Stokes & Forrest off, and I would have gave Watt & Balde the last 12mins. Overall, a good nights work though I thought, a win and most important, a clean sheet. I think we will score over in Sweden, and that should kill the tie. They were a pretty poor side if truth be told, and a worse side than Helsingborgs in my opinion.

 

Commons was man of the match for me

 

I would have had Sammy as MOTM, with Commons just behind him. I thought they were two stand outs last night.

Watched the game online last night and thought it was a good European result despite not being an exhilarating performance. 1-0 is a good scoreline to take to Sweden though as an early goal for us could virtually finish the tie as a contest.

For all the criticisms of the defence, they are yet to concede a competitive goal in 3 matches this season. That's not a bad stat.

Thought Samaras was the standout last night as he usually is now in Europe. He fought well, was clever in possession and knew when to run at players. Other players I would mention as playing well were Kris Commons (who is looking very fit and fresh) and Emilio Izaguirre (who looked composed on the ball and always able to get to the byline).

Next Wednesday may be nervy if we don't get a good foothold in the game but I sure won't be as nervous as I would've been 12 months ago. I trust the team to play away in Europe now.

Anyway, roll on Saturday evening now and let's get this Scottish Premiership underway in style.

 

They were neck and neck so Commons goal edges it for me

 

We controlled the game with ease and passed the ball quite well. I thought Wilson and Ambrose's distribution was excellent. Izaguirre had a great game as well.

Still very static up front though, very little movement or link up play. Still a good result especially as it's our first competitive game against a professional side
