I'd actually be very shocked and surprised if it was him. Signing him would not make sense at all. We don't need him for his 'physical' presence and we sure as * don't need him for his goalscoring abilities. He will also be 30 soon enough and does not fit within our signing policy at all.

Was about to say the fact Lennon's said that he hopes this player could score goals on a regular basis like Hooper did, it can't be Doyle. I think he'd see Doyle more as a grafter and more of a link up player to create goals for the other striker.

I agree, don't think it'd be Doyle after reading it properly. :50:

I'd be delighted with this signing, without hopper the team looks rather weak in attack we need a player to come in and replace him someone who isn't going to be a gamble so this looks very promising.

I think some are setting there selfs up for big disappointment on this one,it'll probably be more likely Doyle than this guy!

And seeing as Lenny said we are trying to get someone in by Thursday and this is the first name printed usually tells you it's bollocks

    I'm in :50:.

But nah, I'm confident now it won't be. Rudnevs would be a decent wee shouter though. Surely Hamburg would be wanting good money though?

Artjoms Rudnevs would be a tremendous signing and is exactly the type of striker we need to replace Hooper. I won't get my hopes up but he would be perfect for Celtic and is worth the relative expense we'd need to pay to the financially troubled fascists Hamburg.

I see he has played 28 times for Latvia and only score once? I know Latvia is a bad side and probably don't get many attacking opportunities in games, but only 1 goal in 28? I just find that surprising for a guy who has done well in the bundesliga.

The line "We’re not really making great inroads but we’re trying our best.", makes me think its Rudnevs, just for the sheer difficulty of this transfer happening. I don't see Doyle coming in to be our No.1 striker, so he's out of the equation, hopefully. Not to diss Kevin Doyle, cause he's a legend, but we need a Champions League striker.

What does "We’re not really making great inroads but we’re trying our best." mean?

Wages or fee is too high or the guy doesn't necessarily want to come here?

Is there an actual link to Rudnevs? Isn't it just Lennon saying he is trying to get his number 1 target. I hope we pull out all the stops. If Lennon wants him and we have the funds we have no excuse to meet their demands.

Tbh he's liked a few players for a long time. So it could be anyone.

If it's Doyle, it'll be a huge let down. I hope it's Rudnevs but I doubt it.

If Doyle is a "Number 1" striker you've seriously got to wonder what kind of ambition we have, and I would hope the Doyle thing isn't true because let's be honest, he is not the kind of player who will make things happen in the Champions League. Someone like Rudnevs would, but I can't see it happening unfortunately.

1 in 24 according to wiki. And to be fair, Latvia are barely above the San Marino's of this world. They lost their last game 5-0 to Bosnia.

There is no chance this is Doyle

When he said "We’re not really making great inroads but we’re trying our best." that doesn't sound to me like the making of signing a free agent, more of the difficulties of checking availability of the player, making a bid, having it accepted and negotiating a contract before the thursday deadline

could be ayone we have bid for i the past 3 years to be honest (including Doyle.......but i don't see why it would be him)
