He was first Choice by the time he left. Apparently Soudani got injured and Balde came in. Then he played well enough to earn his place, So when Soudani came back into the team they both started most games...or so I read.

I just checked up, in Vitoria's final 13 games of the season, Balde started everyone.

There's decent proven strikers in the spl but somehow we buy further afield and find it does not all ways work

Aye, let's punt Balde. If someone won't buy him this window, just release him. He's *, a record of what, 0 goals in 3 friendlies? Another Murphy, let's cut our losses.

Seriously, I wonder what goes through the mind of some people on this fourm. Zero competitive games, but apparently he's been a * signing already.

I think Lenny put too much faith in Hoops, even when he lost form. Felt Bangura could have done a job. If the team had have been reshuffled. Strikers are the most fragile positions in the team, as far as personality goes. They need to be kept getting the back slapping and plaudits. Maybe this is why Lenny stuck with Hooper. But we do need to bring in more front men. Maybe he should start massaging Tony Watts ego. I do believe in this boy!

Give the big man time guys, we can sometimes be too quick in our judgements. Think back to one of our great's, Stan Petrov. How wrong were we, eh ? I include myself in this.

Balde is a majoy concern. Anyone who compares himself to the likes of Adebayor or claims he will be better than our top striker has some set of balls, sadly I can't see him living up to his own hype.

    1. He's a target man - that rules him out of being our top scorer straight away
    2. Anyone who talks themselves up so much usually has something to hide and use talking * as a way to attract attention -

Yes he's not played a competitive game for us as such but he's created his own witch hunt if he turns out to be *.

People on here are quite within their rights to be concerned, he is a massive risk with the qualifiers coming up and the possibility of Hooper leaving.

As for past strikers signed under Lenny, they're not great but as someone mentioned, putting the ball in the back of the net don't come cheap.

Hope he turns out to be a great player for us but I don't blame anyone from being apprehensive, especially going by past striker signings.

Good point... We might have room for a new hooper, now lennon has to give his place to someone else.

I actually think Balde will surprise a lot of people this year and prove to be a very capable and effective Striker.

    Utter madness wasn't it.

I'm sure he was close to chucking it as well. I think he was left to fend for himself in Glasgow as well. thank * he stuck around.

We brought in people to liase with new players after that, make sure they were settled and happy.

It seemed like an eternity before John Hartson scored his first goal for us and what about that diddy from Sweden, can't mind his name, giving a goal away against Hibs in his first game.

A lot of the time these are young guys from different countries and cultures leaving their families behind and need time to settle.

I remember reading his autobiography and he said that he found himself working in a chip van just to pass the time rather than be depressed in his house alone.

I think most of us are in agreement that balde doesn't look like much of a player right now. He's still young though and possesses all the physical attributes to make it. It all depends, like all young players, on his attitude and how far he's willing to go. I hope he doesn't just chuck it after a year. I know it must be hard for a player to come to a country and not speak the language etc but hes got to have a go. I'm not expecting much out of him this season. I think we need to use the money on a top striker from europe. I reckon we need to go to the eastern european market to get some decent talent for reasonable prices.

If Bangura had put that header away vs Hearts it could have been so different. Confidence is huge for strikers.

    Maybe Balde?

    What is wrong with that.

Hooper scored straight away against Arsenal in the Emirates cup after signing on that day (it seemed) albeit you might argue that Balde is fully fit and just settling in but I haven't seen anything to suggest he will be an outright success. So I am more than entitled to say "maybe". I haven't writing him off but I would say that my judgement on players regardless if it is a game or two is reasonably decent so I am going to stick with maybe. Of course I would love him to prove me completely wrong and scored 30 goals but I would be pleasantly surprised if he was in double figures at the end of the season.
