I generally like this forum but I'm sick of everything turning into some sort of debate about an aspect of Ireland, no matter from which spectrum your point of view is based on. This McGuinness story is not exactly ground-breaking but it's relevant to our club and I don't see why every little thing has to turn into either a paranoid rant about the media or on the contrary a discussion about "plastic paddies". Unless our club decides to take issue with this story, as they've done recently with the Daily Record among others, then there's no reason to dispute that Jim McGuinness will have less influence for the next few months. It's up to Lennon and the content of Jim's job description. Simple, move on.

It's got nothing to do with the Mcguiness story and everything to with decades of the hootsmon having an agenda against all things Catholic in this country, which unfortunately covers Celtic and Ireland in this great wee country.

I'm sick of everything turning into some deabte about people who have a problem with bigotry in this country being painted as if they have a chip on their shoulder about anti Catholic/Irish/Celtic sentiment in this forum, especially from the rags who I thought were universally hated by Celtic fans for their constant attacks on our club, our heritage and our way of life.

What does this guy bring to the table anyway? His expertise is in GAA which is a small and lets face it, insignificant sport. No experience 'directing performance' for a Champions League team.

"FOR * SAKES, not everyone has a * 'agenda' agaisnt Ireland just because they critisise Ireland or an Irishman.

    Jesus Christ."

First mention of Ireland in this thread. Why try to drag another thread into an Ireland debate?

    Why is it 'embarrassing'?

There'd be uproar if Celtic brought a * cricket coach in as a football coach..

Nobody is denying the existence of anti-Catholic bigotry in Scotland. It's just that whether it suits your argument or not, huge advances have been made. Plenty of Celtic supporters work in the Scottish media. Plenty of Catholics work in the Scottish media. Only in the vast minority of cases would interviewers seriously, and get away, with employing based on their surname et al. It is having a chip on your shoulder if every time you read or hear about a story regarding Celtic which isn't entirely positive, your conclusion is it must stem from bigotry.

That may be true however the majority of Catholics working in the media go out of their way to denigrate Celtic at every opportunity because it get's you work in this country.

Printing and the print media in this country is notoriously anti Catholic, I would say it's 90% non Catholic who work in these industries and that equates to "token tims" were I come from.

And the "token tims" go out of their way to make sure they don't praise us too much for fear of the work drying up. See Tommy Boyd as proof.

Could you see Tommy being allowed to be like Hately, Jabba, Jackson, English, Leckie et al and be in constant media work?

No, you have to be like Guidi, Keevins, Duffy, Walker to get the gigs in this country.

GAA is a massively popular sport, and that's coming from someone who doesn't follow the sport a whole lot.

Crowds that constantly dwarf 'soccer' crowds is not and "insignificant sport".

Maybe in your wee self obssessed bubble sure but not to millions of Irishmen.

It's a popular sport in Ireland yes, which has a population of about 6m. It has no real supporter base anywhere else.

I'm not trying to degrade McGuinness, I'm sure he is a man of some repute in his own field of work but what does he know about football and 'performance directing'? Sounds all a bit jobs for the boys to me pal.

Golf is also a massively popular sport.

Anyone fancy getting in contact with Celtic about Tiger Woods coming in to coach our midfield?

Golf if massively popular, after all.
