The panic button was well and truly pressed by some last night. I'm not sure if that was the case on here as I wasn't on, but my Facebook was littered with people jumping the gun. I don't think some people quite understand friendlies, they are simply there to try and get players back to being match sharp and blending new players in with the current squad. Results are a complete irrelevance in my opinion. Medals don't get handed out at pre season.

If come next Wednesday, we put in a similar performance then I will have cause for concern, but I will only be judging the team based on games when the real business starts.

I think we need to get this money for Wanyama and spend it more wisely. We need an attacking threat from midfield badly. We should be in a position where we're going into these friendlies with 4 or 5 new players to try out.

Already we're picking up injuries and this is where we've made a mistake not picking up the local talent available for loose change.

The two signings haven't made an immediate impact and we need guys that can make things happen. It's looking like we need another 3 or 4 players as opposed to 1 or 2.
That's why i'd have taken Ojamaa, Russell, McFadden, Mackay-Steven and Christophe Berra way before i'd have even looked abroad.

If i looked abroad, i'd have went for midfielders, 2 really good attacking midfielders.

Instead it looks like we don't have a clue what we're doing.

:56:at folk using a pre-season defeat as a way to then start slaughtering Lennon, the team and the scouting system.

Nobody except the coaching staff and players themselves know if we have picked up injuries. How many times have we heard in the past about players maybe being injured but then feature the following game. I agree that we should have signed Russell, and i'm still baffled as to why we never. I've been a massive fan of Mackay-Steven for a wee while also, but the other 3 wouldn't be of any use to us in my opinion. Not for what we are trying to achieve. In all honesty, Christophe Berra is a complete diddy of the highest order.

Lots of people calling for an attacking midfielder, I agree but I think Rogic should be given a chance. What is the point in bringing a highly rated young player like him in if we are just going to bring in more experienced players to push him down the pecking order? I like what I have seen from him and given time he could be a great player. Has vision, technique and the ability to beat players. I'd rather we brought in another winger before attacking mid.

Rogic is a tough one, He's behind Commons in the pecking order for a position we don't even play half the time. So unless he plays CM, and he said recently his best position is anywhere in the middle, he may not get a lot of game time.

Now the problem with playing him at CM(other than the obvious competition) is the fact he isn't exactly a worker. he doesn't get around the field and press as much as Ledley or Brown for instance, and this can be exploited.

What he does have the the others don't(apart from brown) is an eye for a through pass and the ability to accelerate through the midfield.

I hope he gets a good crack of it this season. But I have fears he'll play less than 15 games.

He's too slow for me to play in a 2-man centre-mid. I hated Barry Robson but he was actually faster than Rogic. Rogic a young 20 year old moves about like the Titanic(after it was sunk).

It's odd, when he doesn't have the ball he does look slow, but when he does have it, he has this ability to burst past players. He's faster with the ball than without :smiley-laughing002:

That is good point. We don't always play a formation which can accomodate one(attacking mid). It's a difficult one, maybe if we look for another centre mid but one who is a little less industrious and aggressive like Brown, Kayal and Ledley and more creative. I've always thought we lacked a "number 10" type player but as you say it's not as if we regularly play a formation which suits that type of player. I think Rogic has talent though, he is not the fastest no but I think once he gets going he is relatively quick across the ground, noticed that yesterday when he went on a bursting run through the middle.

I can't remember the last time we didn't play with an attacking midfielder. Even when none of our attacking midfieders were available Hooper played there a lot.

I don't always pay that much attention to formations just the players who are out there:56: but I suppose thinking about it we do play with one quite a bit, but when we play a bog standard 4-4-2 then obviously not and if we play a
4-3-1-2 then the wingers are left out and I'm not always a fan of playing without a couple wide men. I'm still not sure what my favourite formation is for this side. I'd like to play a 4-1-3-2 but with big Vic offski then it might not work as well without him at holding midfield.

Immediate impact on what?! Training! We haven't played a competitive game yet. I'm not too disappointed that Van Dijk and Balde didn't score 8 goals each in friendlies.

Pretty worried by the fact that we were just pumped 6-2 by a second division German side. Was it a complete lack of effort or are we in genuine trouble for the UCL qualifiers?

The CL qualifiers will take care of themselves. We play * in pre season all the time, it means nothing if we get the job done when it matters.

Are their any highlights of the game?
    I missed it.
6-2 is an embarrassment though. no way should this team be letting 6 go past them.
