A lot of players are like that though. Some players end up caring about the club and the fans, while others just want a move to England as soon as possible.

11.5m just doesn't seem enough to me. Getting pumped out of the CL impacted our bargaining position obviously.

Consolation, half of what we would have got if the * helped us get in. Would be sitting on 30+m from his sale and CL fee :D

Was horse * in Europe and in any big game that mattered. Lacked mental strength and made naive decisions defensively in important games. 11.5 million is superb business for him.

Compare what he did in Europe versus Wanyama or even Foster, night and day. As much as he bossed Scottish football.

Probably are 13m euro's. That fee is what vi.nl are reporting.

Will miss him in the defence, but given how obvious it was he was never going to stay here I never saw any reason to get attached. Just someone who came in, did a job domestically, never excelled in Europe, and * off for a bit more money. There was no Barca game that we'd hold fond memories of him for, like Wanyama and Forster.

Shame on him thinking about his own ambitions of playing in the EPL with a bigger chance being selected for the Dutch national squad. What a * indeed.

Agree totally with everything in bold. He wasn't great in Europe but to brand him "horse *" in "any big game that mattered" is ridiculous.

Loved the big guy and will miss him, our defence is considerably weaker now.

Hope he has a good career and gets his long overdue first international cap.

Had a swatch on Twitter there, Southampton fans all seem chuffed to bits. Did they punt Wanyama to Spurs or did he stay?

They managed to keep hold of him. Will be very interesting to see them both play in the same side.

Will be a massive loss to our back line and very difficult to replace. Really was a top class center back. But he clearly was never interested in staying very long at Celtic so as others have said while I loved his ability I never got attatched to him. In the end he gave us 2 good seasons of service and we made a very healthy profit on his sale fee of 11.5 as against the 2.6 we paid for him.

What tiny fraction of that transfer fee is our manager going to see? It's great we sell all these players for a fortune then bring in pish for peanuts.
