I've never said he wasn't leaving but I don't believe something based on who' he's following on Twitter

Another club might actually come in for him with a better and he won't move to Southampton.

The club following a guy who is well-known to be a fan of us is a different story entirely and you know it.

Are you in denial that he's going to leave or something? Yeah, he just started following Southampton players and that has nothing whatsoever to do with his proposed move there. :smiley-laughing002: Get real pal.

The difference is Porto sign players for £10million and sell them for £40-50million. We buy players for £1million and sell them for £5-10million.

If we can consistently find gems and sell them for profit surely we will start buying higher priced players then selling for higher ? how long could this take to happen ?

That's always how I hoped the model would work for us. I think we're far enough down the line now to say with some certainty that it's not going to happen. We've seen McGeady, Forster, Wanyama and Hooper all move on for good money and yet we continue to shop in the bargain basement. If we sold van Dijk next week for £20million it's pretty much a certainty that Ronny Deila would get £2million tops to find his replacement.

their is plenty of reasons for that difference, but for starters what players did porto actually spend £10 million on? their havent been that many, and thye didnt spend that ammount 7 or 8 seasons ago, they have worked up to that ammount, by qualifying and progressing in the champions league and selling on players

one of the differences currently is that porto have already qualified for the champions league, and can provide more assurance to players they will qualify in future. also the death of rangers means we have are making 10 million less domestically so selling a player for 10 million every year means we essentially can keep our spending to the levels it was under lennon in his first two seasons, and we werent spending more than 3 million on players then either

Well, actually they have been spending this way for a long while. Earliest here on their most expensive signings is 2005. But a few from 2008-2011. This isn't something new.

They of course are aided in the fact they can buy 50% of players - we can't. So those big £18m signings are actually £9m.

Easier to persuade players to join when you have a better league, hot weather, the culture is similar to S. America and the language is the same as Brazil. They also have great working repuations with the best agents going which in turn helps them shift on to other clubs.

That means we are making between 500% and 1000% profit per sale and Porto between 400% and 500% profit per sale

    who is doing better business?

    Still Porto.

They are churning out more and more which means more money, compared to our handful.

They also get to watch better players player, which means more sponsorship money and they get into Europe constantly because of the better players, which means more money.

    Cause and effect.

It's all relative,we are stuck in a earnings band, a fraction of what EPL teams get from TV and there seems to be a ceiling on the price of players coming out of Scotland.
I think we are doing extremely good business under the circumstances but we supporters want more ,we need to be competing at the highest level and can't see a way out of the rut we are in ,other than joining the EPL ,something I don't want.

I agree. I wish we could run a Porto model, it isn't feasible though.

We have a ceiling. I just wish we churned out more of these £8m-£12m players. And increased our spend a little to say maybe £4m a player or something.

Considering everything you guys have said it looks like the best way is too churn out home grown talent, but I cant see us getting 10miil plus bids for scottish players because of epl snobbery, or from european teams simply because they dont rate scottish football.

The talent simply isn't there. Look at the best Scottish talents produced in the last 5 years. None of them are anything special. The culture and coaching of the country no longer produces high quality football players.

I agree, long road ahead if we are to get anywhere near elite european level again.
