Van Dijk a Celtic legend. Jesus Christ, he isn't even close to being put in that bracket yet in my opinion. A quality player no question about it, but not a Celtic legend.

He's in the same category of players as Di Canio, Cadete and Wanyama. Very good players, could have been legends. Didn't stay in servoce to the club for long enough.

Will always be fondly remembered though.

He is no where near even remotely being called a legend.

If he leaves then he will be looked back on the same as Wanyama, excellent player that passed through these gates for a brief moment that is all.

Jesus christ, Van Dijk a legend.

There's no bigger fan of him than me but what an insult to actual Celtic legends.

He would be one eventually but he'll never be here long enough.

He's good enough to perhaps become a legend. But, Legends aren't only made so on their ability alone. Their character, loyalty or achievements are what seperates a good player from the legendary status.

Not a legend, but the best player who has graced the hoops since Henrik imo.

If he stays long enough then he will be a legend though.

I rate Virgil highly, imo he has the ability to play at the very top level. Is he really better than the likes of Lambert, Wanyama, Sutton, petrov, mjailby, nakamura, McGeady and Moravcik? Not for me, not yet. We've had a lot of good players over the last 10 years who have taken us to European finals, the last 16 of the CL on numerous occasions, and given us some amazing nights at Celtic Park.

Virgil stands out like a sore thumb in a league where we are by far the best team, but as yet he hasn't even had the same impact on the top level of football as Wanyama imo.

Sutton, Mjailby, Lambert, Petrov and Moravcik were part of the team when Henrik was playing for us. Though, I do think he is better than Lambert, Mjailby and Pertrov without a doubt. That goes for Naka and McGeady too.

As for Wanyama, I see a lot of people pointing out the fact that Virgil could play in Wanyamas position and be comfortable and more often than not boss the game, whereas Wanyama couldn't play in Virgils positon. For this reason I think he's a better player. Though, I do agree with others that Virgil hasn't shown himself to be fantastic in Europe yet, but Wanyama was part of a stronger Celtic side.

    That's just my opinion. :50:

great defender and excellent footballer playing from the back, not a legend yet though nor likely to be as he will most likely be sold soon

and i also dont see why people are so sure he could play wanyamas role either, he's a ball playing defender but you get time to play from the back, the midfield is a lot busier with not a lot of time on the ball

Great player but Celtic legends don't * off to a bigger league after 2 or 3 seasons

Van Dijk would struggle to be a central midfielder.

He is not better than Lambert, Petrov, McGeady, Nakamura or Mjallby.

He'll stay on until January after we bring in Pato or Hernandez. It'll be tight going in QFs and SFs of the Europa League but we'll be well settled in defence with the In Brugge lad and Boyata by the time we play Sevilla in the final.

Wonder what rubbish songs the Southampton fans will make up VVD? Thanks for the memories big guy.If we meet Southampton in EL will VVD be cup tied? It would be nice to see Wanyama v Brown at Celtic Park though!!:56:Or maybe he will end up at Everton? Or not go at all? Feels like Fraser Foster again. Get the Belgian guy in asap please!!!

Cannot really compare VVD to Sutton, Naka, McGeady, Petrov and Moravcik simply because they play different positions. These were all attacking players (Petrov only started to play defensive midfied when he got older and at Villa) and VVD is a defensive player.

First, I also doubt he is/was better than Mjallby, he was solid for us and could play in Defensive Midfield or Defense.
In today's market, a Mjallby at his peak would be valued somewhere between £10-15million.

Lambert was amazing at his peak and even won a Champions League with Dortmund. Defensively probably not as good as VVD but going forward probably better.

Also Wanyama played in defence countless of times for us, so for that reason alone you cannot say VVD is better. Nevertheless I rate VVD higher than Wanyama, simply because replacing VVD will be harder than Wanyama. VVD is a big part of our style and tactics and will be a huge loss, unless we find another gem to replace him. When Wanyama left, it was a big loss, but we still had Kayal, so it was not as if it left a huge hole in the team. VVD leaving will leave us Efe Ambrose :eek1: as his replacement if we are unable to sign a replacement.

It is all about opinions mate but I can't agree that he is better than Johan - a guy that captained a Swedish team that were probably one of the best 15/20 sides in the world at the time. Lambert - a first choice centre midfielder for a CL winning side. I could go on with the rest but the main point is with the CL - all of the guys I listed have performed at that level consistiently, coming up against some of the best players in the game - and quite often coming out on top. VVD hasn't done that yet imo. He likely will do, and he will be a massive miss when he goes too. But we've seen far bigger players go in the past (imo two recent departures Wanyama and Forster were more proven, and e'll see bigger players go in the future.
