Again Southampton have made a lot of money selling the likes of Schneiderlin and Clyne this season and then Lovren, Shaw, Llalana, Lambert last season. Southampton have a healthy bank balance and they have lost Alderweireld, a vital defender for them last season. Whats more is that they now have european football. In short space of time they have effectively overtaken Everton as a club and thats testament to their youth, coaching and financial set up.

He will go to Southampton and Koeman will get him into the Dutch team.

Will be sad to see him go. Hes a fantastic prospect who has everything anyone could want in a centre half. Unfortunatley he will more than likely be off for a new challenge in the Barclays premier league.

Southampton would be a good club for him to go to.

They've been doing things the right way in the past couple of years... and I'm not just saying that because we've had over £20m from them with the sale of two players recently :smiley-laughing002:

2 games against Malmo, 10 million in the bank and a taxi to Southampton.

Can we not just hide him?

Van Dijk? No us Ronald, try Partick Thistle.

Agree 100% with this, sadly... he'll be missed, but he's joining a team on the up, and who will get him furtger than we will unfortunately.

As for all the hating back and forth, im surprised... Southampton are a nice club, well run and have always dealt with us fairly and respectfully. They've never 'stole' a player for less than fair price, and always held back from a media frenzy when we've said that someone isn't for sale before a certain point (cl qualifiers)... I've no issues with them buying our players, and won't start that begrudgery * because they're richer than us... that's pointless

I don't mind Southampton and at least they have been willing to pay a decent amount for players in ths SPL, unlike a lot of EPL clubs who turn their noses up, or try to get them on the cheap. Obviously I'd prefer it if he stays but if he does go there, like with Big Vic and Forster before, I'll wish both him and Southampton well. Ultimately it's in our best interests if our players that go down there do well. Yes we may be seen as a stepping stone to the EPL, but at least it gives us a chance of getting players who would otherwise turn down playing in Scotland.

It is a stadium with 32,500 seats. What were you expecting when you turned up... 50,000 seats? Sidney Opera House? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeests sweeping majestically...
