Love watching Virgil playing for us. He brings a maturity and composure to the back line that will be difficult to replace.
Hope we can keep him through the CL campaign at least.

Probably looks like if he does go, it will be to Southampton

Would much rather have him at Everton though

Either way, should he sign for one of them he will go for a big fee when he's finally sold. Lot of people in England are writing him off, but they'll be in for a shock

Would be nice if Celtic could have him for another year, but maybe it's time to cash in? Even if he stays this season, I fear he'll be off next one

Still, if Celtic can get between 8-10 million for him, that's a decent haul to get a replacement with

You're a mickey mouse team because you've been in existence for 130 years and won the FA cup once and nothing else. You play in a city that has one team - the eight biggest city in the country (I believe). That's pathetic.

One of the best run clubs in the country but totally reliant on a billionaire owner otherwise you'd find your true level and you certainly weren't getting anywhere near 30.000 fans at your home matches when you were outside the Premiership - just a couple of years ago before sugar daddy came along. Weren't you almost bankrupt before he turned up?

The bubble will burst because the hype regarding the standard/quality of football for sale in England isn't as good as you think it is. I've got to the stage where I record MOTD and fast forward the crap bits - it only takes me about 10 minutes to watch the show. I see the money moving to Spain or Germany at some point.

Of course Wanyama & Forster are happy with their cash - they're not there because they love Southampton. It speaks volumes when the kids around here (south coast and not too far from Southampton) support Chelsea/ManU/Liverpool/Arsenal rather than Southampton.

Have you seen our training facilities? Google & then knock yourself out. You've got ideas above your station.

Finally, if Southampton were playing in the Scottish leagues with our budgets you still wouldn't have won anything. You'd be on a par with St Mirren or Falkirk. I hate the arrogance of English football fans - you probably wonder why we laugh when you inevitably fail.

    And relax..........

FFS I'm not even a true football fan - just Celtic :shamrock:

Yep, every single year. It's déjà vu all over again.

People need to chillax. It's the world we live in, I don't think for a second ted bates is insinuating Southampton are a bigger club than Celtic, simply richer and play in a better league.

Just look at Feyenord, easily a bigger club than Southampton play in a decent league but lose their best players. Money talks.

I don't actually mind Southampton, they pay fair prices for players and generally do things the right way, he'll we might face them in the EL after we drop down from the CL having come third!

    I said we might...

Obviously the more likely scenario is us coming first beating Real Madrid to top spot!

I answered this already, which you decided to ignore...

Have you considered there have been significantly more teams capable of winning the league in England than Scotland?

More large teams = more competition = a lot harder to win the top flight.

Not totally reliant on the Liebherr's at all, the very high quality of the academy, 30k+ crowds and Premier League money goes a long way.

"True level"? What are you suggesting that is? In the 49 years since 1966, Southampton have been in the top flight for 38 years = 77% of the time!

    2nd tier 2011/12 - averaged = 26,420
    3rd tier 2010/11 - averaged = 22,161

Not many British clubs would get those numbers in the 2nd and 3rd tiers.

Like I said, which again you ignored...

That has been said for 23 years, and there are no signs of that happening. In fact the 2016 to 2019 £5 billion+ TV deal is a big increase on anything before.

How do you envisage the "bubble bursting"? What set of circumstances will bring that about, because a world financial crisis didn't. People globally want to watch English football and the money keeps getting bigger as interest grows.

Celtic haven't spent £40m upgrading their training ground recently have they?

Have you seen Southampton's Staplewood training ground?

You think a one club city of 250,000 people would be on a par with Falkirk and St Mirren? Really?

Fail? Saints under Liebherr have risen from 68th to 7th in England in the last 6 years. They know what they are doing.

Correct, I'm not. Put Celtic in the English Premier League and Celtic would be light years ahead of Saints. But as things stand Saints are higher in the food chain as recent transfer windows have shown.

Why are you on a Celtic forum talking about Southampton in the first place :39:

That's (sadly) about the cut and thrust of it. We are limited by the SPL... and always will be.

    Every * year. :smiley-laughing002:

It's become a summer ritual now.

To paraphrase Tracy Kidder: having this argument with him once when we sold Wanyama was vaguely amusing, the second time when we sold Forster was starting to get annoying, but every * year until the EPL bubble bursts is probably the greatest thing I can imagine.

I'll answer you one more time then you can * off again until next year :47:

You haven't answered it - you just made excuses and then repeated it.

That's my point - more teams capable of winning the league and for the last 130 years Southampton haven't been one of them. A totally pointless team and the sooner you realise that the better. Good players don't go to your team for football glory - only money.

Bollocks - you were * yourself when Markus Liebherr died in case his family decided not to carry on and took all their money away. Don't try to deny that. Your academy has a decent reputation but you had to sell the best players in order to survive.

Were you there during your 2nd tier and 3rd tier seasons? It was an atmosphere vacuum. I can't be arsed researching but I saw them two seasons ago in a top of the table championship match (the season you managed to blow winning the title) and there was no way there was anything like 26,420 people there. Danny Fox at LB.

I know a fat ignorant woman that talks about how much money she spends. I still consider her to be a nonentity. Money doesn't always buy class.

I know whereabouts in Marchwood Staplewood is, can't say I've ever been inclined to chap the door and ask for a look about. You sure as * don't get a view of the beautiful Campsie Fells from it - or see an even more beautiful green and white hooped football shirt so GIRUY.

I like to think both clubs would have shown more balls than Southampton have over the last 130 years. Aye, really!

68th due to mismanagement and almost dying. A rich foreign man buys them to make money and they reach 7th after multiple cash injections. Well done, you've overachieved - now jog on. Fancy creating an account on another teams forum just so you can wind them up. Loser!

Fellow Celts - apologies but he's getting on my *.
