Looking at that Liverpool result today I'd say he'd walk into that back four. Far better than Lovren. Also think he's better than all of uniteds centre backs.

I wouldnt go that far. He plays against pub teams every week so it's not fair to compare. We were a shambles at the back at times in Europa.

Not a chance in * he will sign another contract here , what are we going to offer him 25k? He will get standard offers from the EPL of contracts in the region of 40 to 60k . Over the course of a 4/5 year contract we are talking about a difference in earnings of 5-6million quid. The guy is 23/24 years old and football is a short career , the next contract he signs could possibly be his most lucrative so he will be looking for as much money as he can get. Set his family up for generations if he plays his cards right.

He doesn't play against "pub" teams, he absolutely bosses them. Liverpool are average at times and the premier league doesn't have fantastic centre backs anyway.

The standard of Scottish football is poor. Look at Hooper, was fantastic in Scotland and hardly plays in the championship. There's a good chance he could move to England and flop

Vvd is great and all but there's not enough to suggest him walking into a top English sides back four

We signed him from the Championship when he was banging them in though?

Aye it's more the way Norwich play with Jerome as the loan front man, a very good one a that. Hooper has done well when on the pitch.

Glad to hear Ronny saying he's going nowhere until after the qualifiers.

He will go in the summer tho.

I would suggest he's more than capable of walking into a top English sides back four.

He's so clearly above this level, it's actually making me want him to move to a better League for his own sake. Sat watching the game yesterday, I couldn't help thinking that if he doesn't move soon, he may start to regress.

He's just so much quicker, stronger and smarter than every striker he plays against domestically. But he does dive in quite a lot and I think against better opponents (as we've sometimes seen in Europe), he could get exposed. That kind of defending is either brilliant, or gives away a lot of free kicks/penalties.

I've said it before, but it reminds me of what Boumsong was like for Rangers, and then Newcastle.

The likes of Mangala, Skrtel, Evans, Smalling, Jones, Blackett, Paddy * McNally getting regular appearances suggests otherwise.

It's been done to death on here. Look past the 'big names' of the clubs and you will see their players, at least in defence, are horribly average.

In general this is a sad time for defenders in football. Not many great ones kicking about like there was in the early 2000's.

VVD might only have experience of here and Holland with some European games however he has better attributes than every one of those centre halfs I mentioned and of most of the ones mentioned by others in here. It's the same situation with Denayer. He has only had one season playing against 'pub sides' as you put it however could easily go back down there and start playing for a strong side.

He should play for a top side, suprised he's only being linked with English teams. Dortmund should be pairing him with Hummels or he could go to Atletico Madrid, Juventus.

It will be a disgrace if he goes to a diddy mob like Southampton or Everton.

Koeman may well swing it for Southampton, he can further develop there before stepping up. And it will help him with Dutch squad.
