Celtic are making all the right noises in regards to selling VVD , with Ronny telling the media "he is our player ,we have no intention of selling" the price tag has risen. He wont be allowed to leave until our CL fate is decided at the very least.

Van Dijk may even be a bit angry about not getting a move in January, but he stayed.
The question really is, if Celtic have one of Europe's best up and coming defenders, would they rather throw their cash at the Spanish market or the French market, or wherever.

With Van Dijk it's a Scottish team, but a player from the Dutch market and this is what makes it different.

    Last Summer:
    Mangala - to city - 26.9million

    This Summer
    Mats Hummels - Man Utd - £37million.

Borussia Dortmund finished 7th - so as good as he undoubtedly is, there probably are better defenders in the Budesliga, or as i'd rather put it, more effective players in terms of a defensive partnership. It's the partnership that's important and i think Deila's aware of that.

Anyway the over hyped prices dispel the myth that defenders a'int worth so much cash money.

So if Hummels goes to Man Utd and he hooks up with Van Dijk, awesome right.

My guess is Southampton, if they can keep Koeman. I think Wenger's maybe looking up here as well. Mourinho is a sneaky operator as well, watch out for that one maybe.

Me i'd like him to go and play wherever Koeman is the manager. He'll bring out the best in him and i've been loving the way Southampton are both cashing big cheques for average players and going a bit sneaky signing players on their qualities disregarding any arrogant thoughts on the quality of our league.

Watch Southampton come in early, bid first and look to get a deal done early. Then watch the other teams and MOTD pundit brigade sit back in sheer astonishment at the quality we're bringing in here at Celtic.

Don't get too * about it, we'll look to replace and go again.

When all the big teams have eyes on other players others will pass by the radar and we'll look to pick up 2 defenders that daisy chain well together.

Your logic about Hummels not being effective is probably one of the daftest things I've ever read on this site :56:

Yeah i could have worded that a bit better, what i mean is Van Gaal once again disregarding Van Dijk for what seems like a better option, but he might not be.

Borrusia M'onchengladbach have a much better defensive record.

Hummels is a far better player than Van Dijk. There's not even any question of that, easily in the top 5 defenders in the world.

I could have maybe saw your point if you used David Luiz as an example but Hummels is godly, whether Dortmund finished 7th or not. Infact Hummels injuries at the start of the season was a big part of there form being *.

So......is Mr. Rosko advocating that van Dijk is a better choice than Hummels because Celtic finished 1st in their league, and Dortmund finished 7th in theirs?

Anyway, was kinda gutted to read van Dijk's comment today, but that's fitba, that's what happens, that's how other teams support feel when WE buy their best players (see Armstrong and GMS most recently).

If he goes, we have to squeeze as much as we can out of the potential buyers, an hope we can exploit the Dutch/Belgian markets. Is the boy Mechele from Genk still on the table???

VVD is a risk worth taking for some mid-table EPL team but if you were the manager of a top 4 EPL side you would not risk your reputation on a non proven CB that is not an international player no matter how good we all think he is. Also it's all well and good us saying he is staying because he is contracted however his value could potentially reduce in 2016 because he would only have one year left on his contract and therefore only 6 months before he could sign a pre contract and we would get nothing. Unfortunately I think the best solution is to keep him for the qualifying stages of the CL then see what we get for him. I like everyone else is desperate for him to stay but it's not going to happen, in my opinion.

It could potentially sky rocket with involvement in the CL though, that's the funny thing about football.

Nah what i'm saying is Hummels might not be the best defender in the German Bundesliga. He's obviously a class player, going for big bucks and it maybe counts out Van Dijk going to Man Utd.

That would be best for us IMO but you never know he might want to stay if we make champions league but you don't know I wouldn't settle for a penny less than £10m

Even though I did say he could go to Everton for £7m plus mcgeady coming here but that's just hearsay I heard at 5's and ye know what glasgows like....

I think there's a difference between coming here with the aspiration of playing a season and a half and then going to Crystal Palace, and coming here and performing well, receiving offers, and deciding to move on with your career.

A big part of signing good, developing players is keeping them long enough to make a big impact in your club.

Virgil is the best centre half we've had in years. I can see Southampton possible coming in and buying him from us as well - Not a bad word to say about the guy, he's been a rock for us

Couldn't even start to compare Kelvin Wilson to Virgil van Dijk.

Kelvin was a competent defender whilst Virgil has a heck of a lot more than just that.

Van Djik can be replaced, sure. But can he be replaced with better? Can anyone name a time when we have had a better center back? You would have to back to the O'Neil era or before...

Imagine, at the beginning of the season when we were going through the difficult transition period, we didnt have Van Djik???

We will snap the hand off anyone who offers us upwards 7mil, this money will be an insurance in case we don't make CL. It will be a completely new centre back dou, I can see Danny Wilson coming in, and I hope the board won't short change the fans by trying to play mulgrew in there or even big ambrose.
