I agree, there should be a * coup if we even entertain selling him before our European fate is decided. I reckon he will be off on deadline day though. Like I said above test the waters with a bumper contract ya never know.

I'd quite happily keep him for the CL qualifiers and group stage and then sell in January if the price is right and he's still keen to go. Hopefully he'll want to stay for longer though

I honestly think the guy will be one of the best centre backs in the world if he manages to reach his full potential. He has it all, without doubt he can go all the way to the top. We need to hold out for at least £15 million. David Luiz cost £50 million ffs.

You can add Denayer to City on that list.

Been said before how lucky to we are to have him and Denayer at CB this year. Pleasure to watch and a better pairing than most prem sides have and most teams at our level and above have around Europe IMO.

Some might say I'm exaggerating a bit however I have full confidence in them both being able to perform to a good standard at any level. They have literally EVERYTHING you look for in a modern day defender.

We will look back in a few year and wonder how the * we managed to get them on board.

Wanyama has started near enough every game for Southampton when he hasn't been injured. That's the only reason he never plays, obviously.

Constantly being linked with Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Aye, him and Vlaar (available on a free) would save United a pretty penny and get some real quality in a weak spot in their team.

LVG being Dutch will be a massive reason to join United

Any team that doesn't take this seriously is gonna seriously miss out. I'm not too bothered if teams want to think like this, but if you want a guy who can save vital points in games then Van Dijk has proved ha can do that.

We're at least in a position where we can knock bids back if we think we can hold out for more.

Man City and Man Utd can afford the best, but they've been way off the pace this season. Solid defenses have been easily broken down in key games, whether in the league or in Europe. So no matter who City have, Van Dijk would certainly strengthen there defense.

If it meant we got a good fee and a couple of young players from there development team, that's the best we can hope for i think.

But i would also think other teams from around Europe might be looking also.

    Totally agree.

Man United have still to replace Rio Ferdinand with a plater of equal/better quality - van Dijk IS that player. Lightning quick, strong as an Ox, great reading of the game, excellent on the deck with the ball at his feet, offers an aerial threat at both ends, can bring the ball out of defence and link up with his midfield, and by * can have a pop at goal........every quality Mr. Ferdinand offered Utd at his peak.

They paid £30m for him back in the day - they could get van Dijk for around half of that if they want him.......an outstanding price in today's inflated market.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. Ronny has done the right thing and said Champions' League is more important. With the qualifiers we can say yeah there is a price for Van Dijk, we're not knocking back the offer, but we're not accepting it right at this moment in time with these important games coming up. Could be quite a clever play. Not being rude to teams by laughing off bids, but keeping all cards on the table for as long as we can.

We could say, well we risk losing millions if we don't qualify, losing Van Dijk puts that in jeopardy so the price would need to be higher to compensate for that risk.

The Champions League money doubles next season, so the incentive to get there is bigger than it has ever been for us, that's the way the money men at the club should see it.

I think the fact that he isn't playing for the national team doesn't help him in terms of leaving for a big club. He hasn't been capped yet.

Just had a look at the dutch defenders and don't really know much about their centre backs at all. All play for decent teams though.

    Doubles for who?

You saying that - instead of us (possibly) collecting sole revenue for Scotland at around.....say £15m - we could be netting somewhere around the £30m mark for CL group inclusion???

It's usually £10m for the group, goes up to about £20m for next season because of the BT deal.

That's not including gate reciepts or the play offs. So £30m may be about right.
