    See your point on that.

Defo agree that VVD is replaceable, just hopefully we don't need to this coming season at least

Nah, we didn't get him for nothing. He was sold back to Forrest for the same price we bought him for. £1.7mil or something. (I think)

Virgil is 3 or 4 steps above him, lets be honest.

    Wilson was a Bosman signing.

Virgil is one of the best we've had - to REPLACE Virgil, we'd have to fork out around aboit the mark we sell him for, which is never going to happen.

To replace the CB position, you go and try to get a player good enough to play in that position for this team.

Hence, replacing Virgil and replacing the CB position is two different things, imo.

He did say in his interview:

"Fantastic to win 4 in a row...hopefully we make it 5 next year"

    Wishful thinking? Or?

I agree if we offered him 50k a week he would be worth it in all honesty. He is a class above what his replacement will be

Every comment/prediction I've made this weekend the opposite has came to be..

I am 100% sure Virgil will leave in the summer.:39:

I caught that and assumed he was assuming he was staying next season.

    A lot of assumptions.

I've heard a number of supposed "football pundits" say Van Dijik couldn't get a game for any of the top 4 in England. I can only assume they haven't watched some of the * that passes for defenders and footballers for that matter.

Guy is different class. Can defend, can deal with the physical side and he can play with the ball at his feet.

He would find it tough if you look at Victor who was colossal for us, took him a season to adapt and is still not guaranteed to start. Hooper the same struggled to make an impact in the EPL.

Virgil is special but untested at the highest level. I actually think Arsenal is a perfect fit for him. But via St.Marys.

Three yellow cards in the league, conceded 17 goals this season, 19 clean sheets. It can't be lost on Man City just how good he and Denayer have been.

In terms of how you replace a defender lie this is anyone's guess. Any £20million player from the Premiership might struggle to come up with similar numbers. Best part is his attitude on and off the pitch.

So i think you look for someone seen as being a little bit inexperienced. Maybe around 21, played a season or so with a decent team and has good skills, is good in the air.

A tough one to replace, but we replaced Forster for free and the defense improved.
Denayer on loan, Gordon in between the sticks. It can be done, but it's a helluva difficult task. From what we've heard there are some good defenders being looked at from the likes of Man United. Even if we don't own them outright it's about having a decent run in Europe.

A defender like this might appear sometime, but it might just not be this Summer, so top quality loans might tide us over until a player appears on the horizon.

Hope we keep him for one more season. It will benefit both parties if he stays. With him staying another year, as well as a few useful additions to the squad I can see us making the group stages which will allow Van Dijk to showcase his ability on the biggest stage. He gets a bigger, better club next summer than he would if he decides to leave this season, we also get more dosh if he turns it on in the champions league. Win win scenario.

He's going for more than £10m that's for sure. I hope we get another year out of him. Extend his contract so that when we do sell him we'll get the best price. And we'll sell him to Arsenal for £20m after he bangs in a few free-kicks in the CL!

I would go as far as to say he is the best defender I have ever seen in the hoops. Better than Reiper and Mjalby. He has it all. Pace, power, technique, good in the air. Pedro has gone on record saying we can spend 8m on a player if the value is correct. A 40k deal for 4 years would cover this. I think he is worth it.

There is value in a contract of this size as well because Wanyama and Forster are the bench mark. Perhaps the richer clubs in England will buy him from us outright bypassing the midtable clubs. He is good enough.

He is vital to how we play and I know that I am always on about unnecessarily weakening the team but in this case it is a cert if he goes and there is nothing we can do about it. As someone said previously to replace him would cost the same amount of cash that we will receive for him.

I would be looking at 15 million at least for him and if clubs dont meet this figure then I think that the board should stand firm and keep him for the duration of his contract.

If we keep Virgil and do nothing else this transfer window I'd still be happy. Keeping him has got to be our top priority.
