We should offer him a new contract, just to test the water and see if he'd sign one in the knowledge he could still be sold this summer.

Like offer him 5 year £30k a week but insert a clause of £14million and allow the clause to be sneaked out into the papers. So English teams would take notice and know of it. Means we'd probably get more money for him and he'd may even stay another season considering £30k a week is probably close to treble his current wage.

There's not a chance VVD would sign another contract, certainly not for £30k per week, will be looking for at least double that I imagine in the prem.

But if he was still allowed to leave, that would give both of us security for example if he stays he's getting possibly triple the wages which would soften the blow for him plus then he'd get to pick his club where as if right now West Brom came in offering £60k a week and no-one else sniffed about he'd go as he'd be getting 5/6 times his wages even though he might not have wanted to.

But if he was already getting £30k here doubling the wages might not be that big a deal if he wanted to wait for a better team.

He has been on a different level the last couple of months. I'd be reluctant to let him go for anything less than 10-12 million. Even then Id rather we kept him and Denayer for next season.

Making the right noises about our squad in the Champions League next season.

Break the bank to keep him, make him our highest earner. He's worth it.

I don't think he is in any particular rush to leave tbh he won't go to West Brom or Palace anyone like that he sees himself at the biggest clubs he won't leave Celtic for a relegation battle

True, he's proven he's quality over a long period of time. 4 year deal on £30k Nd even if we need to let him go next year it'll be for more money.

We'd need to do it right now before his head gets turned in the summer though.

23 :smiley-laughing002: lived through Caldwell, McManus, Loovens, Rogne etc
Mjallby was good I liked him and Bobo but VVD is the all round package for me you could play him up front for 10 games and he'd score at least 6

I really think we might get another year out of him, unless a side like Southampton comes in for him.

The likes of Dolph, Balde, Elliot and Co were very good defenders. Van Dijik is of equal ability defensively and on a different level in terms of technical ability.

Best defender I've seen in my time.

Mjallby's technical ability was superb as well, it's why he was a midfielder prior to joining us. He played midfield a good few times for ourselves as well.

George Connelly was probably the best and most talented centre back we've ever had, just a pity Jock Stein couldn't keep him in the game bit longer.

For the young guys who are thinking George who ? This was the guy who scored for Celtic when they beat Leeds away 1-0 in the European Cup semi-final. He also took the ball of John Greig in the Scottish Cup Final when Celtic won 4-0.

    Pure class !!!

I am begining to think he may be up for staying at least one more year. The noises he was making in that recent interview certainly came over as someone who is thinking about next season as a Celtic player. Maybe offer him a new deal on whatever our max wages are and that way he gets a pay raise and we still have him under contract for a few years so if he wants to leave after next season we still get a good fee.

He is the best player we have had here in * knows how long ...absolutely oozes class. His touch , strength , distributon , technique , pace is all of the highest standard for a CB . I would be breaking the bank to sign him if i was Arsenal or Man City, he will go to the very top .
