Looks like Sunderland are readying an £8m bid for VVD.
Everton and WBA are in the hunt too.

I think that the reason for that is that there seems to be a trend of paying big bucks for the attacking players at the expense of the backline, which is left relatively unmatched in terms of the money thrown at it.

For example Man Utd buying Di Maria £50+m, Herrerra £30m, Falcao loan fee and big wages. Where is the investment defensively? Vidic leaves, Ferdinand leaves, Evra leaves (their title winning, champions league winning core) and they bring in Rojo and Shaw.

Arsenal spend big on Sanchez and Ozil, but that lavish spending isnt reflected in their back line when they bring in Debuchy, Chambers.

I genuinely believe Van Djik would cut it at any PL side given his physicality and footballing ability and id go as far as to say that. But i think a good team for him would be Southampton at the moment and maybe with that Koeman-Netherlands connection that might be likely.

In a nutshell hes the best center back weve had in a long time and we will need to use the money from his sale wisely.

Hopefully he stays and sticks to his defensive duties a bit more, Guy seems more interested in trying to score than worry about leaving us short at the back..

Defo thinks he's better than he is, although I rate him very highly.

just hope he stays for the zombies. Law, Miller, Boyd ,Daly :56:.

    Would be amazing .

His problem is he's not as good as he reckons he is. He's clearly a good player, but not good enough so that he can switch off as and when he chooses and not be punished for it. He gets away with a huge amount of flak mainly because efe is there to take that when a lot of the time it's virgil who's made a mistake.

He'll be off there's no doubt about that, I'd say it's probably likely to be at the end of the season though, not January.

On here and speaking with a few people I've heard a lot being said about Van Dijik over the last few months.

People say he's not interested in playing and his "body language" shows he doesn't give a * about playing for Celtic. I don't see a guy not interested in playing and I don't see the way he carries himself during a game is an indicator either. If he's not interested then why is he still looking to step out from the back and play. Why is he still making interceptions and winning headers???. Why if he's not interested, does he bother his * playing????

Body Language is misleading and is far from conclusive yet every Tom,* and Harry appears to think they're an expert.

Yes he makes mistakes, at times he's been caught ball watching and he's made mistakes. In his position and every other position mistakes happen. That happens up-front and in the midfield, yet the level of criticism isn't the same. How many times last week did the forwards and midfield make the wrong pass??? How many times did the forwards have chances and not score?? It's easy to beat down the defenders and goalkeepers. Last week was not just on the defence but a larger part on the forwards not taking chances. The biggest mistake in a defensive situation last week came from James Forrest for his part in the 2nd United goal. It's unacceptable at this level and you would get your baws toed for it at amatuer football. Yet because the defence was great it was blamed on them.

As for Van Dijik being involved further up the field, I have no issue with that. When he steps forward, someone will/should be covering(Biton was doing it against United). I assume with the frequency he does it, that it's an instruction coming from the manager(Ambrose also likes to step up from the back). At one point last week, Van Dijik had a header cleared off the line from a set-piece. Within two passes United had the ball and a 1v1 with our defender(Ambrose I think it was) Someone on here posted along the lines of "Where the * was Van Dijik. He should be back in defence". Well if he can cover 60 yards in less than 3 seconds then we should be looking for a shitload more than £10 million.

Ronny mentioned in an interview" with the way we attack, it leaves our defenders more often than not in a 1v1 situation. Unfortunately against Dundee Untied we didn't defend them good enough". Again this hints towards the managers instructions. Indeed this tactic has been key, given we face teams who are intent on having 10 men behind the ball. In the past we had defenders who weren't capable of playing out from the back and as a result we seen the ball hoofed 40 yards to no avail.

Van Dijik is the best defender at the club and some of the comments I've heard and read in previous weeks have been disappointing. At the end of the season there's a good chance we will be back to a position where we require one if not 2 centre-halfs. Only then will people maybe start to realise how important Van Dijik is at the moment.

    He's easily worth 8 million.

If we can hold onto him I'd love to see if he could play further up the park and bring In another centre half. He's great going forward and can pick a pass!

There's no way any player from the Scottish league will get £20million. Why would they bother when we 100% sell for £15 million?

I don't believe that story but if it were true I would bite their hand off. That would be an incredible offer.

We should hold out for more if that's their 1st offer.

No chance they will offer that for a player in Scotland.

If they did though, take it and run.

No chance, I think the club would accept anything around ten.

Would be an incredible offer though, give Ronny 3/4s of it to bring in some players, won't happen though. :54:

we have probably told them that he is going nowhere in january unless it is obscene money . If they desperately want to get their man in january than a few extra million may be what it takes . They know in the summer there will be more clubs sniffing.
