:50: :icon_mrgreen: No really do think he deserves a chance and he'll be up for it, but so do a lot of people in the Netherlands and most of them never seen him play. :smiley-laughing002:

I have to be honest here, it doesn't help he's playing in Scotland either. Still think he'll get a game these qualifications.

I feel for him because i think that Lennons departure was a major setback in getting into this Holland team. I think hes good enough to start for them and when he does he will blossom playing in a defensively sound setup. Deilas tactics in no way complement what a good player he is.

got to disagree , up front has been our worst area, very very very closely followed by centre midfield Johansen and Brown have to have the worst understanding of any midfield pairing i have seen at Celtic , * grim .

    I'd second that.

    Gordon
    Matthews Lustig Denayer Virgil Izaguirre

Probably our best players right there.

It's the midfield that isn't doing it's job defensively. It's improved slightly with the addition of Wakaso but we still have next to no cover on the right & Johansen doesn't offer enough in the middle.

Dare I say it, we miss Mulgrew.

I have to agree. Our midfield get bullied and bossed about too much, and our attacking players have been *.

Iv got a great deal of sympathy for our center backs this season.. Id say they are doing what they can considering. Imagine we still had Caldwell playing at the back for us?

Got selected today for the match against Iceland. Most likely to start on the bench though. Still hoping...

agree with me or not but caldwell was part of a defence that didnt concede a lot in europe and qaulified twice past the group stages and only got put out off a world class milan side in extra time.he also has many caps for scotland including a clean sheet and a winner against france.hes also an experianced premiership centreback.

on the other hand we have van dijk who is still dreaming of being in the premiership.conceded a barrel load against a far shiter milan team than what caldwell was up against.also got put out of the champions league qaulifiers against average sides conceding seven in the process.struggling to make the national side.

caldwell may be * in your eyes but the facts speak for themselves, and van dijk has still got a very long way to go to acheive the same as what caldwell has in the game.van dijk does have a lot of time on his hands so he may take over caldwell in the future.

These "facts" most certainly do not speak for themselves, especially when you are using the exploits of different teams as a barometer for judging the ability of individuals within those teams.

The fact that he has hitherto been unable to break into the Dutch national team is also a bizarre stick to beat VVD with.

just think caldwell gets unfair stick on here, yes he wasn't that great, but van dijk is not that special either.

and to be fair to caldwell his track record is a lot better.i forgot to mention he capatained a pish wigan side to an fa cup final win against man city.i have already mentioned van dijk has a bit to go and might over take him.but right now he still has a lot too prove.

when talking about * celtic defenders we should be talking about the likes of Rafael scheidt not gary caldwell.

Van Dijk is a far superior player to Gary Caldwell.

He also didn't captain Wigan in the FA Cup final against Man City. He didn't play.

Arsenal rumoured to be in for him in January for 8mil.

Personally I wouldn't let him leave for any less than 10mil.

It really soesn't matter to me if we get £8, £10 or £12 Million for VVD come January, the Celtic board will pocket the cash. then smile and say what a wonderful balance sheet we have.

It's obvious they care less and less about what the real Celtic supporters think these days, well wait till next season and watch the amount of season ticket sales fall yet again Mr Desmond.

my mistake about the fa cup final.:52:

yes he may be superior i have not denied that.my point was gary caldwell was not as bad as he was made out to be.whereas van dijk is being made out to be some sort of legend whos only been here for a year and a half and will soon be out the door by the looks of things.van dijks record in europe for celtic is a bit of a shambles compared to caldwells albeit van dijks playing in a * celtic side although arguably playing with a better defence than what caldwell did.

and van dijk has still to prove himself internationally and in the premiership. whereas caldwell no matter how * hes being made out to be has been there, done that.
