    He has been reading his own publicity and thinks he is a star......and can do better than Celtic.

    I think if we get a decent offer from a decent EPL team he will be gone before August is out, CL or not......and i think he will want to go, CL or not

    We all thought he was * off anyway. The fact that he's said he wants to play Champions League football actually sounds positive to me. Means we could get another season or two from him.

    He's basically just said that he's only here for the Champions League. No dedication to the club whatsoever. Remember when Celtic had players who actually wanted to be here?

    I think he actually sounded quite positive there... maybe it's just me. Sounded like he was saying he doesn't want to * off to some non entity down south if we're playing Champions League football. I'm happy enough with him taking that position because, let's face it, the season would be next to non existent without Champions League football or a good run in the Europa League. Suppose it depends what way you want to spin it.

    I cant say i blame him.Like all foreign mercenaries, ( i dont mean that nastily, but they are)he is only thinking of a big pay day.

    What are his wages here? What would they be in a mid table EPL team if he gets a few caps more etc?

    IMO he is not as good as he thinks he is and at CL level has a lot to learn. I wasn't impressed with most of our players last season in the CL. Lustig was the best of a poor bunch.

    Pains me to say it but, without the Champions League, we're not a very attractive prospect for someone who doesn't appreciate our history and the size of our club. I can't say I'd blame him for trading top flight domestic football in Scotland for top flight domestic football in England.

    I agree, he comes across quite laid back,chilled out & unenthusiastic but I
    think the Dutch are like that anyway.

    And it would be a smaller club too....as he wont get near the top 6 just now.
    His thoughts will be...."get to the EPL priority, impress in the big games over a year or 2, get move to an Arsenal or Man City or Liverpool." Jackpot!!!

    Does anyone think that if someone like VVD wanted away, but knew if we got CL football he'd have to stay......he would not be so "committed" in the games coming up?

    No.

    The club will be in a better position to sell him if we make the Champions League. The club only cares about the windfall, they don't give a * how we do when we get there, so they'd have no qualms about selling. It'd be easier to replace him as well.

    Why would he risk staying at Celtic with no Champions League football? That would be disastrous for his career ambitions.

    If we qualify he stays for one more year.

    If we don't, he is flogged to the highest bidder.

    Even if we do qualify he still might be swayed to leave, but I doubt it.

    Basically if a team who arnt in the champions league wanted him he wouldn't go!so he better make sure he's in top form every game to get a top 6 team in England. He won't be able to play for anyone else in Europe after playing for us.
