Barca should've probably went for him instead of paying £16m for Jeremy Mathieu. He's 30 and I'm sure Van Dijk could match him and would also probably be cheaper.

i keep asking this is it possible to put these sort of contracts in place?it would make sense.selling wanyama, hooper, wilson before the qailifiers was near suicide as the karagandy game proved.hopefully the board have learned there lesson and get some sort of clause in place.

As long as we get into the Champions League Group Stage then that's what matters most.

Forster is off and Gordon will hopefully be his adequate replacement.

As for replacing VVD, well with the money we should be making off of the two going, I'm sure we'll bring in a decent defender.

Big money off of transfers and big money off of European football for the second season running. Our bank account must be looking very * nice right now.

It better be put back into the team though!

Anyone else think he and Forster could both be off to Southampton?

If they come in with a bid of £20m for the pair of them we'd certainly sell. That's the (absurd) Lovren money well spent right there.

    Pretty much every paper.

I will be ridiculously gutted when we loose them but we will replace them. Maybe not with as good players but they will be up there. Never thought we would replace Wanyama or Ledley and we did.

Right. He's got his head screwed on that guy. The only time he seemed keen to leave was Benfica, which was entirely understandable: one of the biggest clubs in the world, better league, CL football, better weather and lifestyle, etc.

Van Dijk, on the other hand, gives me the feeling he's looking to leave.

I think Celtic should tell Southampton to f*ck off in regards to both their alleged underwhelming offers for VVD and Fraser Forster. Especially when you consider how much they are selling their current squad members for: 19 year old Chambers (£16 million), 19 year old Shaw (£30 million). Clearly Southampton have plenty of money to spend on new players. So if they seriously want to sign two Celtic players that have been proven at a higher level than EPL, otherwise Champ League. Then they should make proper offers for our players rather than the derisory and disrespectful ones which they have made for VVD and Forster.

Foster is proven at champions league level VVD is not, maybe if he stays this season he will cause he did not cover himself in glory in last years champions league but he does have the potential to be great.

But I would be looking for 8-10 million for him if Southampton did bid.

It's maybe the bargain of the season, VVD for 8-10 million. At least everyone knows the price and 2 good games against Legia might just tempt some other clubs.

In my opinion it comes down to what a player is looking for.

If he's looking for Champions League football, medals & trophies (granted, they are Scottish trophies, but still) and the chance to play for one of Europe's most well-known clubs then a move from us to a lower EPL team makes no sense.

If he believes he can use a lower EPL side as a stepping stone to a bigger EPL side, and he's primarily looking at his pay packet then a move to the EPL at any level makes sense.

I'm not saying one way of thinking is right or wrong, by the way. It really does come down to the individual.

I hope VVD stays for another year at least.

Selling him for anything less than £10m would be our loss.

To echo the comments above on Southampton's transfer budget, they can get to * if they expect to pick up our two biggest transfer winners on the cheap.

    * EPL monopoly *.

To be fair I don't think they "expect" anything. Like all clubs, they'll be looking to sign a player as cheaply as possible.

If either of them go for a low amount then the blame will sit firmly at the door of our board, not the buying club.

15 million and a 20% sell on fee which mean if he goes for 25-30 million in a few years were getting 5-6 million

Never going to get twenty-million for him, I expect if he does leave it will be very similar to Wanyama money, possibly even less as Wanyama had some incredible games in the Champions League.

Hope deila fights tooth and nail to keep van dijk, as he must know any replacement coming in won't be as effective unless we get extremely lucky.
