As RR has argued, the crowds are still considerably larger than the SPFL as is the media attention. Actually, I am sure I heard the average championship crowd was higher than Serie A (don't quote me on that though!). And it isn't just the numbers. The excitement generated at the games of any team in the top 10 at the moment will be much greater than our crowds simply because they are playing for something throughout the season. 20,000 fans cheering on a potentially promotion-defining game is going to create a better atmosphere than 45,000 people watching a good team pump a rotten team to go 23 points clear for the 3rd year running. This is not to make any comment on the actual teams, and all things being equal of course Celtic is a bigger club. But I would still go to a good championship side ahead of Celtic from a purely career perspective.

Well guys like Leighton Baines, Lescott, Bent, etc all came to prominence after signing to EPL clubs from the championship. Southampton alone (in their Championship days) gave the platform to guys like Bale, Oxlade Chamberlain, and Theo Walcott all at young ages, while guys like Lallana and Shaw have enjoyed promotion with them and are now recognised as two of the best young talents in the EPL.

I don't believe players like Danny Ings at Burnley and Jordan Rhodes at Blackburn would consider a move to Celtic even if we did stump up the money needed to get them (which of course we wont). They are no doubt on the radar of several EPL clubs and would certainly see coming to us as a step backwards, or at least a step sideward. Tom Ince has been linked to several EPL clubs playing for Blackpool who are currently 18th in the Championship.

As regards competition, the EPL is competitive this year, but even when it usually isn't there is still enough talent in it to allow clubs to challenge in Europe if not as well as in the league. 6 in the last 10 champions league finals have had at least one English club (usually not the champions), while last years Europa cup had 3 English teams in the last 8 (of course including the eventual winners). So while teams like Newcastle and Tottenham may not win the EPL any time soon, they still have a platform to impress in Europe.

Sadly, leaving aside personal preferences for teams, I just very few arguments for players to join Celtic in their current state ahead of top championship sides and almost any EPL club.

Why has he became chummy with Luiz anyway?

Let's face it. Player in a top four team phones you, you'll probably go meet him.
Bit that's why I think dinner at luiz gaff and muorinho in the closet trying to sweet talk him. End of the day the lad could walk into some of these top four sides. He seriously is that talented and were lucky to have got him for as cheap as we did

Aye, I was just thinking it was a it random that Luiz of all people was talking to him. :smiley-laughing002:

I'm surprised we got him so cheap - Everton and Man United had scouts constantly watching him, they just couldn't commit to signing him.

He has not really slagged us off, we where outplayed by Barca. No player performed much either.
Unless i am missing something i cant see where else he has slagged us off.

No one like agents, but players have them because they get the best possible deal for the player, lets be honest did any body really think he would be here after the summer? The best thing we can do now is get the best deal for him, and hope we can find another gem like him in the summer.

What ever happens with big Vic we will make a * load of money when we sell him. Fantastic player and I hope he is here another season but can see some bids for him this summer anything over 12 million and he is gone.

I think our players are seen as largely untested at a higher level, and rightfully so. Champions League games are the exception rather than the rule for us, aren't they? So I can understand why some managers down south may be hesitant to rate any of our players as highly as we do when they compete against the likes of St Mirren & Ross County on a regular basis.

Usually you'll find it's the lower EPL/upper Championship level side that is willing to take a chance on them.

If idiot managers are happy to * 10mil on championship players then I don't see why we shouldn't be asking for at least the same. You pay for talent and future potential. V.dijk is a cracking player who strolls games and would walk into most teams In England.
    So lucky we got him
