    Do you not think if he keeps up this sort of form he has a very good chance of making it to Brazil? Netherlands defence isn't exactly the strongest.

    This would be pointless would it not? He's already shown he's fine at CB, why move him elsewhere?

    That's mean we would need to get him settled in that position aswell as finding and settling a replacement...when we could just buy someone else for Wanyama's replacement...if Biton is no good(but I think he will be)

    He's had pretty much all good/great games though. If he keeps up this form all season he should be going to Brazil.

    holland defence the last time I saw it was not the strongest, had that guy from everton in it who now seems to be a sub for everton

    By far our most impressive signing of this summer so far.

    Has had the most game-time from our new signings and looks absolutely top drawer.

    Could well be in the Holland squad leading up to the World Cup should he continue like he did in the San Siro throughout the rest of this CL campaign.

    Love him already he's only going to get much better. Wins everything in the air and has very good technique for CB.

    He shouldnt just be in the Holland squad, he should be in their team.

    Heitinga = Dutch Christian Dailly
    Vlaar = Dutch Caldwell

    Only other ones I know are Martins Indi and de Vrij from Feyenoord who are decent players too but im not sure better than Van Dijk. Dont know if Mathijsen is still playing for them.

    The two you mentioned will most likely be the center back paring for Holland in the future. There is no reason why Van Dijk can't get a look in though. Especially if he continues to progress as a player.

    It's hard to see a team that was in the last World Cup final picking an spl player for their starting team, that's not to say he has not got the potential to play for them.

    £2.6m is at the higher end of the scale for Celtic as transfer fee's come for signing players and Virgil looks to be a real steal at that amount thus far.

    Excited to see how he progresses and matures, for 22 he's years ahead of that tactical awareness wise/positional sense.

    Edson Braafheid (yes, him) came on as a sub in that very World Cup final in the same season, where he was here on loan and didn't even feature towards the end of the loan spell, so I wouldn't consider it to be a stretch at all.

    Also I believe Loovens got called up a couple of times, while he still played for us. Actually just checked, made his debut for the Dutch in 2009, the Mowbray season leading up to the World Cup.

    One thing we can't do is jump on his back if he makes a couple of mistakes. He's a young defender, it'll happen. The worst thing we can do is slate and berate him like we did Ambrose.

    As pointed out big Glenn Loovens and Edson Braafheid both played for the Netherlands, the latter came on in a World Cup final :smiley-laughing002:

    JVOH was in the Euro 2008 squad too and got a decent amount of caps

    The only national side that fears to call up Celtic players is Engurland.

    Look at that team... and Loovens!

    Van Dijk will go to the World Cup, I put my house on it! It's one position they never seem to be so strong in.

    That's a good shout.

    I've made it a point to try and not berate players as much this season - did it with Kelvin Wilson, Samaras and Ambrose in recent seasons, and I feel kinda rotten for it :smiley-laughing002::smiley-laughing002::smiley-laughing002::52:
