I don't like either the home or away this season, the worst in a long time. Variations of the original red and white would be interesting for an away top

They're just trying to copy Umbro's acid-taking design team from the mid-1990s.

    Retro vintage etc.

While we're on kits, does anyone know how a club selects a kit manufacturer, or vice versa?

It's can't be just down to kit manufacturers seeking top clubs because in for example last season in Scotland Nike not only provided kit for us, but also for United (sixth in SPL), Hamilton (fifth in second tier), Ayr United (seventh in third tier) and Montrose (sixth in fourth tier).

In the same season Puma provided kit for nine Scottish clubs in all four divisions (though predominantly the second tier).

I would imagine the kit manufacturer would be driven by trying to maximise shirt sales in deciding whether to enter into a kit deal, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

    Any explanations?

We are a sponsorship, lower league teams are not. Nike pay to make our shirts essentially.

    That's what I thought.

So why do clubs like Dundee United and some in the lower divisions also have Nike kits using Nike templates?

Nike have blank templates and I think clubs can choose what they want.

Aye, but I still don't understand how the likes of Montrose or Ayr United end up with Nike kits. Do Nike court them or do they court Nike?

If you're Nike, Puma or Adidas, presumably you'd want to focus on the SPL, not on the third or fourth tier.

One side or the other has to initiate the contract, so is it Nike, Puma, Adidas et al or is it the clubs?

I think if its the case of it not being a sponsorship it would be the club that would go to Nike and ask them to produce kits so they would just get the basic templates.

The DU badges have been photoshopped in but it gives you an idea of what smaller clubs like Ayr would have to choose from.

Part time teams etc pay for their own rather than Nike paying us to wear their shirts.

Stop talking *. I heard all that ''They payed nike to make their kits''

Are you telling me while we were making money from sponsorship deals Rangers were doing the opposite and paying the manufacturer ? :smiley-laughing002:

The huns were winning titles and competing in the CL at that point but they were paying the manufacturer ? Away you go :smiley-laughing002:
