I was playing football manager and just signed up Jens Jeremies as my chief scout :icon_mrgreen:

But it made me remember that he retired at only 32 because of injury and played little football from 29-32. That should have been the prime of an excellent footballer.

Then it brought be to Sebastien Deisler. Another top German player ravaged by injury and forced to retire at just 27.

It's such a pity when it happens, probably even more of a pity when its a young up and coming star, like John Kennedy!, So who else has this happened to?

Robbie Di Matteo, Michael Essien, Paul Elliot and Paul McGrath (not quite ruined per se in McGrath's case, but definitely stifled)

Deisler and Van Basten come to mind right away. Ledley King was a cracking player but could have been absolute top drawer.

Not a top player but i always rated Dean Ashton

Seems crazy to say it but if not for injuries think of the careers they could have had, not just the great ones they did.

Ex-Celtic youth player Charlie Grant was always touted as the next best thing in our ranks.

Gutted he never got his chance.

I suppose you could include John Thompson in this thread also :54:

Lentini has to be the most obvious one. Looked like he would become the best player in the world, fantastic technical ability on the ball. Then he crashes his car, ends up in a coma, eventually starts playing again but his touch was like a donkey on rollerskates rather than the magician he was before the crash

    Haha :smiley-laughing002:

He played for Real Madrid & Getafe. He was part of the Spain squad that won the Euros in 2008 as well.
