4 million sucks, take off that the 10-20% sell on clause scunthorpe have then what do we come out with.....little over 3 million if we are lucky.
If his goals got us into the CL this year and i think they will then i would keep him and after he gets a few more goals in group stages i really think we will still get around 3 million in jan.....or just let him go next summer.

Makes me sick that Celtic won't just offer him the money he wants, especially when you've got Broony, who don't get me wrong, is an engine on his day but has been out injured for half the * season, as one of the top earners at the club. I think we could get him to sign without breaking the wage bracket but the club are just being tight arses again.

He wants to leave, last year of contract, we won't get as much as we'd like for him. In an ideal world, I'd want maybe £7 million for him, but I can see him going for a lot less than that. Amido Balde looks set to be his replacement, and it has always been quite clear he wants to go back down South. It's been fun, Gary. I'd like to see him go to a bigger club, rather than see him with struggling relegation candidates but in the end it's his choice.

Wouldn't sell yet, especially for that amount.

It's still so early in the transfer market this is only the first official news of a bid. Plenty of other clubs will also be interested. Clubs always test the water with initial bids, if they really want the player then they pay what the club values them at.

Celtic need to look at it in two ways - yes he only has a year left on his contract, but that's another year of vital European football where we would prefer Hooper to be playing.

If he wants to move let him. If he moves to hull, he'll regret it in the end. We'll move on.

£4m though? No. Just no. What an insult.

Of course we don't know what the club are offering him on the new terms but it's been said he's refused it on multiple occasions now.
So whatever the reasons are, we as a Club I think have to sell him now rather than lose out and he walks for nout.

I like Hooper but if Celtic can't get him signed up then he has to be shipped out the door this window.
I believe we've still got enough quality to get us qualified to the group stages and if we sign this Balde and manage to get a replacement for Hooper before the group stages then we'll do fine Imo.

Oh and £4mil is a bit of an insult, but we better include a sell on fee as we all know how his value will rocket if he can hit a few goals down there.

He will be back in the championship within a season if he goes there. Also he has to think about this move, they won't create as many chances as a Swansea, Sunderland or Everton who he is good enough to go to. He could very well go down there and struggle to score goals in a side like this. I know he scored goals in a poor Scunthorpe side but the EPL is a whole different level. He is then left in a small side who are likely to be fighting relegation, with no european football to showcase his talent and still no chance of getting into the England side.

You do realise that the less any club pays to us by way of a transfer fee, the better chance he has of getting higher wages and a higher signing on bonus?

I personally don't think he wants to stay. He' been with us for long enough perhaps, and fancies a crack at the game down south.

Realistically, Hooper will not get a callup from any England manager. He should realize the EPL is not for him. Celtic should refuse any bids from English clubs anyway, for Hooper's sake. If...Inter or Juventus offer good money, though...

I dont understand why Hooper doesnt just sign a new deal with us, stay for next season & then Celtic can cash in on him next season & get way more than the £4mill Hull are offering. The reason I say this is cos hes on what 82-83 goals for Celtic? He may not care now but at the end of his career to be named in the Hall of Fame at Celtic of players who have scored more than 100 goals would be a great achievement for him, one more season isnt going to harm him & Celtic can get something out of it aswell. Another chance for him to try win a treble & play in the Champions League, cos if he goes to a mid side Premier League side, lets face it the only medals he will have to look back on when he retires is the ones he won at Celtic, theres nothing stopping him breaking into the England side if he plays well at Celtic this season & with him having a longer contract we could ask for £8-9million for um, so works out for everyone, Wanyama I dont think we can keep, but surely the aim of hitting 100 goals for Celtic would be enough for him to stay & try & achieve, he wont be a legend but will go down as one of the all time great goalscorers & that has to be an honour for any player

Unfortunately we have the ignorance of England managers to thank for this kind of thing as well.

If Hooper had been playing in England before now they probably would be picking him. But because of their ignorance in thinking you can't prove yourself in Scotland (bearing in mind he also has in the Champions League) it means Hooper is now probably of the mind set that he has to go to England to get a call up. Fraser Forster is the same going by some of his past quotes.

    That's a good point

The way they should look at it is if a guy is scoring and playing well in Europe he is more worthy of a call up than a guy who is playing for West Ham, Stoke etc

4 million for a striker in the last year of his contract who only managed 19 SPL goals isn't that bad. Hooper is a great player but that level of goals is easily replaced. Look how much Griffiths and McGinn banged in with * teams. I'm not suggesting we go for these players i'm just making a point that Hoopers goals can be replaced.

Being realistic, the amount of money we make from him isn't his concern. He'll be more concerned with getting a good wage and perhaps a good signing on bonus.

He has more chance of both of those amounts being higher if the paying club are spending less on a transfer fee.

It's a World Cup year next year, he will leave this summer. Ultimately he wants a chance at the England team before the World Cup comes along and he is in with a shout, due to a lack of out and out goal scorers in the squad.

Aye we could get another player who will score 20 odd goals like a Scott McDonald but the team will suffer unless someone with the allround quality of Hooper is bought.

Think of how many goals the midfield scored when Vennegoor and McDonald played up front. Barely any, that was because they both had poor movement and didnt link-up well with the midfield.

In their 'heyday' of 2007-2008 the midfielders scored

    Nakamura 7 goals
    McGeady 8 goals
    Brown 3 goals
    Donati 4 goals
    Hartley 1 goal
    Jarosik 2 goals
    Robson 3 goals

    28 goals combined

Then think of how many goals from midfield we score now....

    Samaras 14 goals
    Commons 19 goals
    Ledley 10 goals
    Wanyama 9 goals
    Forrest 4 goals
    Brown 3 goals
    McGeouch 1 goal

    60 goals combined

The 3 goals Matthews scored last season were when he played on the right of midfield too.

Hernandez of Man Utd would probably score 30-35 goals a season if he started every game, they dont start him though as his allround play is poor and the team would suffer more.

Last season the midfield scored 53 goals and the season before they scored 58 goals. In 2008-09 they scored 33 goals. So in the 2 seasons of McDonald and Jan the midfield scored 61 goals, in the individual seasons of Hooper or Hooper/Stokes theyve scored 60, 53 and 58 goals.

When buying Ki they had to take his image rights into consideration also. He is a superstar in South Korea, a pin-up boy, a shirt seller. That would have added a chunk onto his transfer fee.
