A awful lot of Irish supports who would support a EPL team, while they may not support Celtic they will still generally buy a Celtic jersey most seasons, and casually follow the results etc.

Perhaps I failed to convey it properly because his post (in here) shows that he totally missed my point.

Nothing wrong with that. I do the same with several teams- including, until the Brentford thing, Liverpool (ironically enough). I was just saying that our actual fans in Ireland did a great job backing the team because I could hear them loud and proud in spite of them being heavily outnumbered. :50:

My point was that I believed St Pauli banners supporting the GB would be 'uninspiring' for their players to see....they argued back that fans needed to show 'solidarity' completely missing the point.

Celtic's support in Ireland will go up again when we become a regular elite CL team again. I firmly believe we are on our way back to those days.

It's a shame, but totally understandable, that most Irish youngsters switched from Celtic to Man U and Liverpool, and now it will be Chelsea and City. But as has been pointed out none of those clubs have the genuine Irish connection that Celtic have, so add a little bit of success into the picture (i.e. beating Barcelona) allied tot he history, and those Irish bhoys will come running back.

For the other thread, but I knew fine well what your line of argument was. StPauli1916 actually addressed it quite effectively in a later post IMO, hence my post above. If you want to go into detail, you'll have to bring it up in the other thread as I'd rather not get a warning for taking this thread off topic.

It's all due to Sky and its coverage of their flagship league mate, and as far as I can see its only going to get worse

Man the * majority pool fans yesterday I'll * give to them because for the vast majority that'l be the first and * last time they will ever see their team up close.

I dont want to be a pontificating * on the whole thing but it wasnt a mad suprise to see so many of them because the average dub and Irish household is an EPL household but as has been mentioned they really dont know what its like to love a team like it is to * love celtic, Celtic is the be all man it makes me feel deadly when I see plastic * talkin about chelsea and all,

I didnt mention a thing about the victory but I know if pool had beaten us I'd be getting it in the * ear for weeks the * ha all the mots, hail hail

I was quite surprised at how outnumbered we were on Saturday. But the Liverpool fans were absolutely terrible in terms of atmosphere. I didn't hear them sing at any point throughout the game. Had a great weekend, but paying for it at work today.

You were 'genuinely embarrassed' by Celtic's Irish support and think the St Pauli ultras are 'sad' and yet you want me to stop trolling. Aye alright treacle.

Lads don't be letting this bother you, I'm irish and a Tim with no other team but I guarantee you the numbers of pool fans that would travel to watch games are minimal, my dad and 5 friends were at that match, all pool fans and never go to games, once in a blue moon maybe they will pay through the nose 3 - 400 euro for a mid table team playing Liverpool.
The irish Celtic lads are a different quality of fan! And much more knowledgeable as you could see at the game..
Not one song came from them, where we sang for the game.
It's all TV armchair *! But when it comes to supporting the team they are clueless!!
I would travel more in a season than 50 of them together.
Sure I once caught one' Diehard pool ' fan out when I asked him the words to you'll never walk alone, needless to say he didn't know it.
So chill lads , we were outnumbered but or support is much much more organised and dedicated.. HH

Had a discussion in my local here in Dublin yesterday with a Liverpool fan.Started coming out with all this arrogant Epl * which any of the Dublin lads on here will be familiar with, anyway i reeled off our team and their ages and told him we beat them with our youth team and typical of a Dublin Epl * he could not even name some of their starting lineup or subs.I asked him how many times he has been to Anfield, once was his reply and he is 37 years of age.Iv been to Anfield more than this * to see Celtic play.Just to echo what some people are saying, one Irish Celtic fan is worth ten of these cluless sky sports armchair fans,Irish Celtic fans are knowledgeable about our club and go to see them on a regular basis which is more than can be said for the vast majority of Epl * here in Ireland.:shamrock:

If Sevco ever got into the Premier League and done amazing do you think any plastic fans from Ireland would start supporting them? Or is that a step too far? :smiley-laughing002:
