I'm a well travelled young man. I took a stadium trip to Monaco's home ground and that was that, I was hooked.

    Not in the slightest.

At least Monaco are one of the teams to nearly get their hands on the big cup.

We'll get it in 2 years time. Just hope we avoid City, Dortmund, PSG, Barcelona and Celtic - that would be awkward for me. Don't know who I'd be rooting for!

I'm not a huge fan of that but at least those clubs have earnt their success. I'm not old enough to remember it but there was once a time when it wasn't about money in football. It wasn't about who could afford the most expensive players. It was about bringing young players through and developing a club ethos. Football really has lost it's way but that's what money does to everything. Just look at the music industry as well. Like I said, I'm too young to remember it but I really am jealous of people who lived through the 60's and 70's

I wouldnt say Man U and Arsenal earned their success. They were quite lucky that when they had their period of success thats when advertising and TV etc all became big with Sky and the CL and Premier League and so they got more money than teams ever did before and could then go on to build themselves.

If the TV Money etc stuff all kicked off 10/15 years before it did, it would probably be Liverpool, Everton, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest who went on to become the big well known English teams because it would have been them who got the money to kick on from their place of power but back then there was no such money and once players left you got worse and someone else came up.

Theres only a few teams who have been successful throughout their history Celtic, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ajax, and Bayern Munich. Most English teams have all had ups and downs Leeds, Everton, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal.

Liverpool are only recognised as big as they had a massive spell of dominance in the 70s and 80s in England and in Europe. And Man Utd and Arsenal only because when they became good, the money was pouring in to keep them up there - its hard to fall away like all teams really did before in England when you can buy better players than other teams.

English football until Liverpool became really dominant was always mixed with no real big team who stood out from the rest

Celtic, Barca, Madrid, Ajax and Bayern have all had ups and downs. What a ridiculous thing to say.

We didn't win a league for 10 seasons FFS.

    Exactly.

No team is entitled to success.

Aye 10 seasons isnt really that long though. The teams I mentioned were all winning Leagues and Cups from the start regularly throughout every decade and had always been known as the best in their countries, could add Rangers in too before they died.

There was no standout English team until Liverpool. A few had had small eras of dominance but then fell away and things like that. Like Leeds only real spell of being big was from about 65-74, Everton 80s, Arsenal 30s, Wolves 50s, Man Utd 60s, Aston Villa 1890s, Huddersfield 20s. They hadnt always been there or there abouts.

Man Utd when Alex Ferguson took over had won the same number of League titles and European Cups as Aston Villa. Everton had won more Leagues than them, as had Arsenal and Nottingham Forest had won more European Cups than them.
