Are they mixing in Brits with the Irish fans?

Trying to create unity I see.

Shouldn't be playing England in a friendly.

They play for CFC just to reach the EPL. No love for CFC as deluded fans think

Singing against English repression in English. Hahahaha, always a good laugh
Indeed, why to risk? Some people will come only to make the riots.

No, surely not. Not the well-mannered, proper English, they are not bigots - it's only the Irish and Scots :smiley-laughing002:

Criminalisation of fans for chants, however 'offensive', is wrong.

That said I don't see why England fans, or any fans for that matter, should feel the need to sing about 'the IRA' at a football match. Certainly not in 2013, anyway.

Even if they are chanting monkey sounds or shouting "black bas*tard" etc? Certain fan chants should most definitely be criminalized.

All "offensive" chants however should not be thrown into the one category of criminal.

Would anyone here really give a * if they were chanting songs about the IRA?

As long as they don't start attacking innocent fans and throwing seats into sections packed with families again I won't be too bothered.

Those two instances would already be considered criminal acts outside of a football context, though, so aren't really relevant to my point about criminalisation.

I would regard anything that is deliberately disparaging of the IRA as offensive. Therefore, I trust any anti-IRA chant, slogan or banner will be met with swift police action and vigorously reported by Sky News and various other tabloids thereafter.

We (Celtic) sing about the RA, let them sing anti-IRA if they want.

I see some of the England fans who are opposed to the offensive anti‑IRA chanting are claiming that the main perpetrators will be the Chelsea and Millwall hooligans within the England support.

No, but the point is if their are people who feel singing pro-IRA songs is OK, then their will in turn be those who feel the same about anti-IRA songs. I see no problem with the former, so to demand the England fans be stopped from singing 'No Surrender' would be extremely hypocritical.

Have there ever been pro-Ira chants at an Ireland international, though?

It's not as if the chanting/violence of the English at Lansdowne was a response to any pro-IRA sentiment of the local crowd, who were just there to watch a game of football. It was pre-medicated by a bunch of Combat 18 types who wanted to politicise football.

It isn't as prevalent as it has been Celtic matches though, surely?

I don't see why pro-IRA chanting at Celtic should even come into this discussion, it's completely irrelevant.

No it isn't prevalent, and I'm not saying they will be singing them in retaliation. The Irish rarely sing these songs nowadays, but England can do whatever they want, it honestly doesn't bother me personally.
