Even if he was overrated by the media he was still a great player. You don't play for the likes of Madrid, Milan and Man U if you're not a great player. If he wasn't world class then he was * close.

True! This season has really been the last of an era. Terrific player and a great guy. Wouldn't have minded a wee half season of Beckham in the hoops. What a footballing CV though, nobody can take away what he has achieved as player. Absolute professional on and off the park. Top guy and good luck to him!

He was a great player in his Man U days but became more of a celebrity after that than a great footballer....

He played for those clubs for reasons outside football.

He was worth more off the pitch than on it.

As I said, Alan Thompson was and is a better player.

Good player in his prime, but overrated in his twilight years by the English media as a result.

Ironically not a *, in spite of his irksome celebrity status.

Always quite liked Beckham as a guy. Footballing wise, he's been past if for a while, however he seems like a very respectful guy.

    Good luck to him:50:

Cant really agree, at Madrid when Capello took over he was basically out of the team but fought his way back into it and was proberly their main player in the last few months when they won the league.

I think people seriously under estimate how good a footballer Beckham was on his day because of all the celebrity that came with him.

Beckham was world class for me. Top quality.

It really frustrates me when you hear the English and other idiots comparing the likes of Cole, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand and others in the same quality because they're far from it.

I agree to an extant I think Madrid aswell as la galaxy thought they could benefit from him aswell as the shirt sales and I think galaxy did but Madrid did not.... The rest after man united wouldn't benefit he was just a big name to them

Aye, you dont get a move to the best team in France and get a game for one of the best teams in the world at the age of 37/38 after years of playing at a poor level unless your a celebrity :50:

Would they sign Scholes, Van Bommel, Henry, Marquez, Giggs next season? no danger, so why did they sign Beckham?

I agree with this 100%. AC Milan fans rated him did they not? I haven't watched Italian football since the late 90s/early 00s but I'm pretty sure he played well there.

Maybe now at PSG the exposure is a major factor but do you think they would play him in the Champions League if they didn't feel he could contribute?

Did anyone else watch the "Really bend it like Beckham" series when they were younger too?

Although I was only 9 when it was on, it helped me so much. I still to this day use the same free kick technique I did when I was 9 because of that series Beckham did.
