Benitez is a better manager than Moyes.

Given the amount of money at his disposal, the guy has done an extremely poor job there.

    Moyes vs Pellegrini next season.

Benitez is an objectively worse manager than David Moyes in the context of a discussion concerning the Manchester United post (or any job in England, for that matter, but I digress), yes, and that was the conversation that you brought up.

There is nothing silly about weighing up the record of a title winning manager in multiple countries, multiple continents, even, a manager that has not failed to achieve his targets since his fledgling days in the lower reaches of management over a decade ago, and deeming him superior to a manager that has no international experience, no European experience, and no silverware aside from a solitary second division title.

Moyes is a good manager, fits the bill at United, and may well go on to become a great manager there one day.

Pellegrini is already, put simply, a great manager.

Not in an British football context.

    Mourinho? Wenger?

No, wait, I'll retract the latter. :smiley-laughing002:

Bentitez or Moyes in British football? Don't know, we'll see what Moyes does with top players. But who was the last Liverpool manager before Benitez who made them challenge for the title?

    * knows.

Not sure Benitez would go. No money, he said he wants a top job...

But he said he wants to stay in England and he's not getting the Liverpool, Utd, City, Spurs or Arsenal job so maybe Everton is his best bet.

Give Moyes a third of Benitez' net spend over the course of his Liverpool tenure...

    Just saying.

Moyes' achievements in an English league context dawrf Benitez'.

Moyes hasn't been tested at a top club so no one really knows how he will do

Correct , thing people keep on saying is Moyes is not a winner , forgetting that the side he is taking charge of is packed full of them something that has been instilled into them from the youth up . You really think these guys are going to stop having that winning mentality just because a new manager has come in ?

And he might spend big on Bilyanetvinov, Andy Johnson and Yakubu again.

"Don't know" was my answer, we'll have to see what Moyes is like with a good team, but I'd edge it to Benitez at the moment, not taking into account hypothetical situations.

"Dwarf"....he almost won the league with Liverpool ffs.....Liverpool, look what happened to them after he left. He just couldn't handle Ferguson's mind-games like Keegan.

City want to go for another South American manager: Bielsa.

You could cherry pick 3 bad buys from every manager in the world , what about all his great buys which far out strip his bad buys at Everton ?

First two correct. Benitez to Everton - no chance. Benitez will likely go to Paris if Real get Ancelotti.

Benitez would do well at Everton and have them challenging for the top four on a consistent basis.

You're probably right though. Although he wants to stay in England, by his own admission, he would probably take a top foreign job if offered.

My point was that those are probably three of his highest four signings with Fellaini so giving him a bigger budget wouldn't necessarily mean he would outperform Benitez.

Pellegrini is a stick on for the City job. Guillem Balague said it was common knowledge in Spain that he was getting the job, I think that may even have been before the FA Cup Final. I don't like to talk up the EPL because I think it is very overrated, but I have to admit, with all the managerial changes that have taken place/will take place, I'm looking forward to it next season.

    Jose - Chelsea
    Pellegrini - Man City
    Martinez - Everton

I will be very surprised if Benitez went to Everton, with his ties with Liverpool and possibly bigger jobs being available. Add into fact that he would have little money to spend and the squad is not big enough to rotate every week which is Rafa's weak point in the premier league

Right decision from Man City. Mancini has brought the good times back to them (with a blank cheque tbf) but this season City have been pish. Didn't win a game in Europe, didn't put up a proper challenge to Man Utd, lost the FA Cup to a much lesser side..

Be interesting to see who they bring in. Pellegrini is the favourite for it and he is a very good manager.
