Berbatov was * hot at his peak - there is a reason why he was bought. :97:

Rooney a lot better than Berbatov but I guess it's down opinions. People tend to dislike Rooney so downplay how good he was same goes for John Terry who also hated by a lot people.

Berbatov had very little workrate, probably the most laid back footballer in the game, but supremely gifted, great touch, Rooney is the kid in the park, he'll cover every blade of grass till the final whistle.

Could well be us. He plays against Everton every year, and he hasn't hid the fact he likes Celtic.

I still find it hard to view Rooney as a proper striker, like Berbatov, Sheringham and so on.

One of those players who I've never quite pinpointed where he is best played.

I still think he'd be better in midfield. Thought he was gonna be the new toy Keane to be honest. Wrong as usual.

Aw right man, I thought you were rating Berbatov below ALL of them!

Aye, he's below Rooney overall. I'd say he is more skilled but Rooney works harder and has achieved more, not to mention he does so much more for United.

He's virtually a second striker, though since 4-4-2 is dead he's been played as a CF, sometimes as a CAM and sometimes out-wide so it's been really hard to pinpoint his best position anymore.

One thing you cannot argue with is his record in terms of goals for both United and England, or indeed the trophies he's won for United. 5 league titles and a champions league is a huge achievement.

As of now, I agree with Xavi he should be playing back in midfield because his burst of pace is now non-existent, it was a huge part of his offensive game.

For me a midfield three of Schneiderlin deeper, with Rooney and Herrera advanced of him. Then Memphis and Mata either side of Martial is what I see as United's best offensive setup considering their current players and style of play. As much as I rate Schweinstiger I don't believe there's a need for him and Schneiderlin to both play, either Schweinstiger plays deepest or not at all for me. United need more forward thinking players in their midfield and that's what Rooney and Herrera would offer. Rooney has all the attributes and now has the vital experienced needed to be effective from deep.

I think he's still better than people give him credit for.

He is breaking records left, right and centre. Dumplings don't do that.

If that's the case then maybe we should sign him.:icon_mrgreen:
At least, he would give Griffiths a challenge up front.

Didn't have one touch inside the palace box yesterday, not one, shocking stat for a forward.

More chance of scoring with Liz, than on the pitch, he does like a gilf.

England's greatest ever goalscorer isn't just a throwaway stay, that means he's scored more than Shearer, Owen, Fowler, Lineker, Charlton, Greaves...

He's 13 goals off being Manchester United all time top goalscorer over Law and Charlton and he's about 70 off Shearer for the all time top goalscorer. And he's just turned 30.

He is all but guaranteed to finish his United career as their best ever goalscorer and that is from someone people keep saying isn't a striker and for large chunks of his career he hasn't been either.

Not getting an easy ride from the media into the bargain as well at minute I think his time is up at Utd

He's still a very good player but, as I've said before, he is nowhere near as exciting as was. He was at his best in maybe 2008, but was at his most exciting in 2004.

Of course it's not a throwaway stat but his record at major finals isn't very good.

The point people are making is that he is past it now. He'll score a few goals and put in the odd very good performance but he'll never get back to his form of 3 years ago. Or anywhere near it.
