The guy's work rate is also exceptional, as mentioned his range of passing is up there with the very best, the weight was just about perfect on the thru ball to Valencia.

Moyes will certainly be glad that Rooney never left, he brings so much to the team.

I think he's overrated to be honest, far better striker out there than him.

Good player but slightly over rated tbh

On the fringes of world class

It's worth remembering that Rooney played his first real full season of high level football when he was sixteen years old. He's been playing at the top level for eleven years already, which is crazy considering he's only 27 years old now.

I feel that like a lot of players who burst onto the scene as teenagers he's close to burning himself out. The same happened to Michael Owen.

It's also interesting that his goals to games ratio isn't that great. 27 goals in a league season is his highest, and there's only been two seasons in the nine he's been at United where he'* over 16 league goals in any one season.

Personally I don't think he's as good as the media make him out to be, and I certainly don't think he'd be considered "world class" if he were any other nationality than English.

His work rate and passing is phenomenal, and he gets lots of goals and assists, world class for me.

Goals to games ratio not that good?

486 games, 78 which were as a sub, 248 goals and 119 assists.

That is more than good. Considering the age he started playing at as well!

That's one goal every 1.9 games. An assist every four.

He is involved in a goal every 1.3 games.

In the 2 seasons he scored 34 goals in were the only full seasons hes actually played as the main striker, before that he was always being shifted about to accomadate others or he had to share the position with another striker like saha or ruud but ultimately he had more to his game than them so he was always the one to drop deeper and get involved more play.

Watching that game tonight against Liverpool, and again I wasn't impressed by Rooney.

What's the deal with United fans anyway? How do they relate to Rooney? It seems sometimes as though he's like the slightly disabled kid from PE at school, tanking all over the park with a big red coupon, sliding in for tackles and missing them by miles, yet he still get's applause for effort.

Scoring 201 goals for your respective club always helps with popularity

Yeah, I'm not disputing that, I'm just saying that I find it quite funny when he comes tanking over the park, ruddy faced and tongue to the corner of his mouth in concentration only to slide in for a tackle about 10 seconds too late and the fans burst into chants of "Rooney!".

Rooney has been outstanding this season so far , looks to be getting better and better with each passing game , he has his fire back and will only get better.

Same with us with Broony, when the team are getting sloppy and it looks like nobody is getting on top, when somebody tries to take the game by the scruff of the neck, closes down, challenges and generally shows a bit of fight he rightly gets praised by the crowd.

There's also the fact that he is a pretty sensational player who has scored more than 200 goals for their club.

    That helps a lot.

Far from World Class but certainly International Class. One of the best players in the EPL.

Glad he didn't go to Chelsea, they would have walked the EPL with him in their team
