Best and worst football crests/badges?

What do you think are the necessary attributes for a good-looking crest or badge?

 

I don't think there's a catch all set of rules or attributes that I would refer to, there's too many variables to consider.

I love 'busy' crests if they look grand, historic, and, to be frank, a wee bit pompous. Barca and Madrid's crests fit that mould for me, they just scream class. Same with the national crests of Spain and Denmark.

Simplicity has it's place though, Liverpool is a great example. For me, their current crest looks atrocious and a bit tacky, where does teal come from? It's utterly random. The liverbird on its own looked fine.

Bayern and Dortmund are two examples of fantastic, simple crests. They just work.

Arsenals new effort looks restrained, cold and corporate. Very apt, given that clubs character nowadays.

 

Barca, Madrid and Denmark are certainly 'good-looking' crests. The same could be said of Hamilton Academical's.

Same with Dundee's new old crest (their last one was... dull...) and Raith Rovers' crest. Cliftonville's too. Classics of the genre, really. Simple, stand out.

 

Irish football has some great crests, the Bohs and Shamrock Rovers for starters. Quite like UCD's as well.

The Accies' crest does look very good.

 

A crest should be memorable, in any case. I think that's where a lot of these "busy" crests fall down as well.

 

What they've done to our badge is a crime.

 

Think round ones are the best, you know football shaped

 

That Cardiff City re-brand is tragic, the new corporate Arsenal crest is a joke the old one was class so much detail on it. Liverpool have seen sense an returned to the classic LFC Liverbird about time.

The badge is bad enough but the name is like acne.

Norwich badge is hideous.

Can't stand bayern munichs badge. Looks like a poker chip or a bottle cap or something.

 

I actually think that the second badge is much nicer.

That being said - it's a shame that your club has had to undergo re-branding.

Let's hope they get to the Premiership - taking a bit of the * away

I prefer Cardiff's new badge to be honest. Didn't like the old one.
