I don't see how joe could have continueand. He was tough as nails and it showed when he wanted to go out and fight when he couldn't see and was being pummeled at that stage in the fight. Great fighters the two of them.

Ali was in far better condition by the end of the fight. In the last couple of rounds frazier barely hit him. if the fight had continued meaning both men came out for the 15th I firmly believe frazier would have been knocked out. thats why fraziers corner quit first. For his safety.

He didn't really quit first though. Ali was done by the end of the 14th, Frazier's corner felt he was done then too. It just so happened frazier corner got the referee's attention first.

Either way, by that stage of the fight I'm positive that there wouldn't have been a "knockout" per se. Neither of these guys were in the condition to render the other one unconscious at this stage. The only possibility I can see other than the most likely scenario of the fight going to the scorecards is a TKO due too exhaustion. It's anyones guess who was would've got that though.

Ali is a complex guy who lived through tubulent times..talented,articulate,arrogant,cheeky,funny,*...he fits a loada descriptions but for me he's just Human, not perfect by any stretch of the imagination,he has his failings just like the rest of us but i tell ye something...what an out and out entertainer he was and in my opinion as close to a Super Human as your gonna get along side the likes of Gorgeous Georgios whom i met today at the Dakota Eurocentral along wae wee shooder's,Rogne and Zaluska :celt_2:

There's no disputing the events at the end of the 14th... Ali asked Dundee to cut his gloves off and Joe was pleading with Fuchs to let him go on.

And Fuchs didn't let him out because he was in no condition to fight. He did the right thing, there's no way he could have known about ali wanting to quit. He did what was best for his fighters safety.

Ali was also in no condition to fight past the 14th!

But yes, Fuchs did do the right thing. He cared for the safety of his fighter in a manner that Dundee apparently did not (he ignored Ali's calls to cut his gloves off).

The point I was trying to make though was the apparent determination of both men. Neither was fit to fight past the 14th... but Joe wanted to go on... Ali didn't.

I agree with you ali had great determination to as he was never knocked out his whole career aside from a tko in 1981 vs Holmes but Frazier was amazing he was blind and still wanted to go out and fight. Even against foreman he never gave up and kept coming into his thunderous punches. Haven't seen a more determined fighter than Frazier

Here's a really nice interview with the 3 of them
