My hometown club, Maribor, are playing in the same group as Wigan. We beat Zulte yesterday in Belgium with 3:1, altgough we have an incompetent goalkeeper who keeps letting in stupid goals in the EL (against Wigan and yesterday as well, ffs!) and although we played with only 10 men since somewhere around 55th minute. Well done, boys, the manager change apparently made all the difference. :50:

Also, our goals were pretty easy on the eye. :)

Karagandy once again showing that they are no pushovers, drawing 0-0 at half time to AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands.

By no means whipping boys and a very stuffy team who keep the majority of their games tight, plus capable of nicking goals.

4 goals scored, 5 goals conceded in the Europa League group.

They are also pretty unlucky not to have 1 or 2 wins in the group. Took the lead in a few of their matches.

You know how we were all frustrated as * yesterday with Celtic's performance? Well, today I had the honor to witness exactly the same thing when Maribor faced Zulte. The visitors won with 1:0 thanks to a first half penalty but my * was the whole stadium frustrated by the lack of any creativity and real threat of our players. On a normal day we could have easily beat them (and we did win 3:1 in Belgium two weeks ago) but today the game was just painful to watch... :31:

Still think and hope Fiorentina will win it. One of the teams dropping out of the Arsenal - Napoli - Dortmund group will become the favourites though

Yay, we made it. Beat Wigan yesterday with 2:1 and because Rubin beat Zulte Waregem in the other group match, this means Maribor is the first Slovenian team to go through to the elimination round of a European club competition. And this despite the fact that we were bottom of the group before the last matchday, the first team in European competitions to ever pull something like this off. It was the club's birthday yesterday so I guess everything kinda fell into place, similar to that Celtic - Barca games last November. Especially the winning goal, which was a proper golazo from Željko Filipovič. Looking forward to the draw. :celt_2:

Brilliant Sarcasmo! You must be buzzing :50:

Some of the groups are very odd looking the way they finished up.
Such as Dinamo Zagreb and PSV going out and FC Chornomorets Odesa and Ludogorets Razgrad going through in the same group. Never saw that coming!

    1 Ludogorets Razgrad
    2 FC Chornomorets Odesa
    3 PSV
    4 Dinamo Zagreb

Also Genk topping a group that included Rapid Vienna and Dynamo Kiev! I really like Genk but didn't think they were that good.

    1 KRC Genk
    2 Dynamo Kiev
    3 SK Rapid Vienna
    4 FC Thun

Some other weird things happened in the groups, like Bordeaux finishing bottom and Trabzonspor finishing ahead of Lazio.

But the biggest surprise to me was seeing Karagandy finish bottom of their group, the way they played against us I thought they might go quite far in the EL.

I know what you mean but I expected them to sneak a win or two especially against Maccabi Haifa who was in their group. They had a pretty hard group though with AZ and PAOK in there, if they had a different group I think they'd have done quite well.

It's more to do with the sheer height and those * * long throws! They're a bit of a one trick pony though I guess so maybe everyone figured them out after seeing their games against us.
