I'm talking about playing him as an attacking midfielder by the way, not a playmaker not as the man who takes the ball with his back to goal and creates around him. Not the person to always need to pass to, which he is being played as just now.

Basically, play him like he was last year.

For those who are in love.....
To say he's useless in Europe is harsh as * ..

Whilst i agree he gives the ball away(at times) too often, he's far from deserving most of this critiscm ..

He's as near to a playmaker as we have, another position the board/management/scouts have failed to deliver a genuine splitting regular passer that makes everything tick..
In European competition almost every club has one..

Commons has always been slow but has equally always been a goal threat, his play and finish last week was exquisite even if nothing else he did was, it still won us the game..
He changed the game to a more threatening side in the second when brought on v maribor although as a team we ended up huffing with no puff..
Ac Milan away, barca at home the year before and in all our qualifiers against the likes of helsinborg away he comes up trumphs and provides a danger..

He's not top draw and overall he might flatter to deceive on the big stage but commons although sometimes frustrating, is a good player and others should be dropped long before him..
We aren't going to splash out on champions league quality players any time soon anyway..

he's still useful domestically of course but i do think he's lost a lot of speed and agility, when he gets the ball the move loses all its impetus, he slows it down too much

id like to see someone else tried in the hole, i think its a big reason for the formation not working well since the attacking midfield role isn't developing a lot centrally for us

brown done well at the head of the diamond formation for us the few times we played it last season so he's worth a shout at it, could we do without him in the engine room though

If Commons had increased attributes some folk criticize him for lacking in, he would be far more valuable and would NOT be at Celtic.

The same rings true for the likes of Emilio, who lacks a decent cross at times and caught short defending.

Ambrose and his 'Messi' moments when he get caught on the ball.

    Forrest and his injury proneness.

These guys are International class players. Yes they aren't at the top end of International nations, but they are some of the best for their respected nations. We simply cannot attract International class players from the better nations anymore.

:50: You'll be happy the day.

This is the sort of quicker football we could see without him breaking up play and generally being slow as *.

Column from Hartson yesterday. What an absolute laughable * he has became.

    Blame will lie with Ronny

IF Kris Commons signs for Bolton in January then Ronny Deila can’t have any complaints.

There’s only one man he could pin the blame on — and that’s himself.

Commons is the best player my old club have at Parkhead. He was last season’s Player of the Year by a country mile.

If Commons decided moving on and joining Neil Lennon in the Championship then it’s for one reason and one reason only — he doesn’t feel wanted.

I know Kris, I’ve been to enough functions with him and his lovely wife Lisa.

I’ll actually see them tonight at my John Hartson Foundation charity ball.

Trust me when I say he LOVES being at Celtic.

At 31, he could easily see out his career at the club and retire a happy man.

But given the way his manager has treated him since taking over during the summer, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s tempted by the idea of moving on at the first opportunity.

That’s only the way I see it, by the way.

I’ve not had any conversation about it with him so it’s NOT any inside information.

I just look at him as a top player and top players get itchy feet when they’re not playing every week.

That’s how I’d look at it if I was him.

You won’t find anyone who loved pulling on the Hoops more than I did during my six years there.

But if I thought for one minute Martin O’Neill didn’t rate me, I’d have been looking at my options.

That’s just the way of life as a footballer.

It’s fine when you’re young and starting out, but when you get into your late 20s it’s a different story.

It’s about playing week-in, week-out and being a major part of the team.

Clearly Delia is playing him more often in the side now — but it must have been worrying for Commons when those massive Champions League qualifiers were being played in July and August and he was sitting on the bench.

I still can’t get my head around that even now. It didn’t make any sense to me then and it still doesn’t.

You can’t tell me he couldn’t have made a difference in the games against Legia Warsaw. :31:

Okay, he went on as a sub against Maribor but that was the second half of the second leg.

Deila is clearly a stickler for his players being 100 per cent fit and maybe Commons wasn’t in the best shape at that point. I don’t know.

All I do know is that he’s the best player at the club when he’s on his game and I’d have had him as the first name on my teamsheet.

I’m not using this as a stick to beat Deila with — he’s the boss and it’s up to him who he picks.

But Commons would have been chapping on his door looking for an explanation when he was dropped. He’d have wanted answers and those answers may still be rattling around in his mind.

And if Commons doesn’t agree with them then maybe Celtic’s loss will turn out to be Bolton’s gain.

For me he’d take the Championship by storm. He used to play for Derby, remember, so he knows what that division is all about.

Like I say, although he may be perfectly happy as a Celtic player and appreciate how much his wife and kids are settled in Scotland he’ll also look at the bigger picture.

He could get more money down south for a start.

So if someone like Lenny phones him up — a manager he knows and loves — then don’t be surprised if he ends up moving on.

And then Deila will have more criticism to deal with. The way things are right now that’s the last thing he needs since he’s been getting it tight lately.

Not just from me, either. Okay, I gave him stick after Celtic lost to Hamilton in their last game, but that’s only because I care about the club.

They shouldn’t be losing matches like that, just as they shouldn’t drop points to Ross County.

The fact people are billing today’s match in Dingwall as a big one is just embarrassing.

It shouldn’t be a case of whether Celtic win a game like this but a case of by how many.

But then I suppose nothing is guaranteed these days. Certainly not with Ronny Deila in charge.

doesnt suit the way celtic are gonna play so his time is up

thanks for the memories though :50:

no doubt he can finish, i just don't think he can get himself in the position to score or influence the game as much as he used to

and football is a young mans game, don't think it will work out for him in the championship either

Nothing wrong with John Hartson's article IMO, it's what most Celtic fans have been thinking, and especially now we have the Commons/Johansen and possibly Henderson debate going on. I agree today's modern game is a young man's game, and Kris is on the wrong side of thirty, so all things considered he might be better considering a player/ coach role either here or somewhere else, or being resigned to becoming an impact sub in the near future.I don't think Kris is fat per se, he is big boned and muscular like Wayne Rooney, and it is always going to be terribly hard for Kris to keep his weight down and keep his mobility, especially in his thirties.

Because that's what he has became since he became a regular in the media and in particular since his shameful post-Dens Park article.

FYI Commons started both games against Legia.

Hartson's talking pish but I think he's right - Commons will be reunited with Lenny in Jan, even if only on loan. Ronny doesn't rate him that much and he's not content to sit on the bench.

Lawwell is mainly to blame not the manager as he could and should have given him a player/coach contract at least 12 months ago.

ronnie was right about commons and that is why he left him out of the side

ronnie changed to putting him back in because his first choice didnt seem to be working great either

but surely it's obvious to most now that his work rate productivity aint enough

shame that john after the ross country game is harking back to this ffs get over it and lets move on

Commons will be good as a sub for when the initial plan isn't working, but he's not a good fit for this system and it has been obvious for a while. It seems Ronny was just waiting for Mulgrew to get back so he could push Johansen forward.

Don't like saying it but it's hard to take Hartson serious sometimes. If Commons leaves in January then the blame lies with Ronny and that's the end of it according to him.

Suppose the blame lay with Lennon when the likes of Ledley and Samaras left then? Oh wait....
