He is one of our best players though, so what does that say about the rest?

If commons, our top scorer by miles and top assister is not.good enough then the other 10 must.be brutal in your eyes..

    Found out how?

I think all of our players got found out last season, even Forster. We wouldn't have shifted 6 goals against Barcelona if we weren't. Doesn't mean that your best player and player of the year, who scored a beauty to get you into the competition in the first place (and the only goal of the tie the game before), who also scored the winning goal to send you through to the Last 16 the year before has been 'found out'. It means, collectively, we weren't good enough.

Commons role in the team is vital though, He is supposed to be the link between attack and defence. He is supposed to be our creative player. His lack of pace and bad first touch makes him ineffective in this role in Europe. When the player that is supposed to be the creative player in your team can't do his job the whole team suffers. The last 16 goal was a penalty.

I don't mind keeping Commons for the SPFL but don't let his league stats fool you into thinking he is good enough in Europe.

Aye, and you biting at them makes you sound like a sixth form student on rag week. Big deal.

This place is absolutely famous for people who really should know better making knee-* reactions to inconsequential things.

Getting rid of a Player of the Year midfielder, who cost £300K, scored 32 goal, a high number of assists and who has stated (and means it) when he says him and his lass absolutely love the club are to be cherished by a support, not hounded.

Instead it takes one benching to be wished out of the club by a few select tactical geniuses.

    Do you want him out?

Except he's played that role for us 4 times in Europe, Juventus games, AC at the San Siro and Ajax. The rest of the time, the majority, he's been in a far different role. Do penalties not count anymore? Do you remember what our penalties were like before Commons?

I'll just paste what I said a few pages back

"Commons is a tough one. It's hard to drop a guy who can bang them in out of nowhere but I do get the feeling sometimes that the team doesn't perform as well as it could with him as our creative player. His first touch and pace slows down our attacks a lot. Seems out of his depth in Europe too. I really don't know on Commons. If we got a decent fee I would sell purely on his age but the guy did score 32 goals last season. Him and his missus seem sound as * too"

The same problem with his lack of speed and poor first touch still effect wherever it is he plays in that forward role.

Yea I remember what penalties were like, we had that ludicrous system of miss one and you were off penalty duty. Madness

I disagree with that, Spartak away he was excellent as he was against Spartak at home, Barcelona at home I think he must have covered the most ground out of anyone that night and was one of few who was keeping possesion, ended up at practically right back covering players left right and centre, he was the same in the Nou Camp that season.

Benfica at home in the 0-0 he was our only attacking threat and if not for an outstanding performance from Scott Brown would have been man of the match. Was really unlucky to not chip the keeper from the halfway line.

Benfica away he was *, I'll give you that.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily agree with all of that but those are fair and reasoned comments. The more of them the better imo.

A million miles away from the "punt him, he's *" pish that we get from some in here.

So Commons doesn't start again tonight (and on front page of match programme ouchh).

Now if we were losing and needed goals to overturn an aggregate he may well have started I imagine, but given the fact we dont need to be too gung-ho tonight does this signal that he is indeed likely to go by next week transfer deadline as Ronny must have workers rather than flair and poss reduced work rate when not in possession?

Also, woud he be a starter in your team if you were in charge as interested in views on him??

Looks like his role is being minimized by Deila.

We all know that Ron is a huge advocate of bringing through youth players, so it looks as though he's going to be picking McGregor over Commons quite a bit this season, especially with the former already having scored a few goals since he came back from Notts County.

Think tonights team may be all you need to know about Commons place. Biggest game of the season and he's on the bench.

Aye, it means if you want 3 players in midfield the man behind the striker is the position that gets sacrificed. There is literally no other choice.

I would not read anything into him being left out. He's not a winger.

Really? I think it shows that Ronny doesn't rate him as highly as Lennon without doubt, and that he also doesn't rate his workrate if you can drop a midfielder that scores that amount of goals.

Appreciate he doesn't need to chase anything at outset tonight in the same vain he would if behind after first leg but if he isn't playng him at home then Commons will certainly have some questions.

Don't want to be to harsh on Commons tonight, thought he played well when he came on but why the * didn't he just bury that chance. One thing he knows how to do is hit the back of the net
