He has adapted to Ronny's style of play. He's closing down and work rate off the ball have increased ten fold since Deila has come in.

I'm not saying you have said this, but a lot of people on here have suddenly turned on Commons and want him out of the club as soon as possible. As Hammer has said, I find this absolutely incredible. I actually find it difficult to get my head around it at all. He was our PLAYER OF THE YEAR last year ahead of Forster, Virgil, Brown etc.. after scoring 32 goals from midfield.

His close control is exceptional, he has the best long shot in the squad, he links up extremely well with other forward players (especially Stokes) and he wants to stay here for good.

He's always been stocky, as I said. He's not fat.

 

I don't think he has adapted. He looks like the Commons of last year and the year before. As I said, I've never been a fan of him. His first touch is shocking, the number of times an attack breaks down because of him is crazy. He slows everything right down. Waits for the ball to get to him and sticks out his * trying to win a foul.

Aye he won the POTY award and 32 goals is incredible from midfield but his all round play was * poor. Van Dijk was more deserving IMO. Commons is one of those players who has a horrible game but because he scores a goal, all is forgiven and he's everyone's favourite player again.

He links up reasonably well with Stokes but Stokes be out of the team soon, and rightly so.

Ronny wants his team to have players full of energy and speed, particularly in offensive areas - Commons isn't either of those.

 

He's not unfit, he's just slow and has never been fast and he's certainly not fat, been mentioned already but he's proper stocky.. Bulked up massively from his early days..

 

It's maybe not a case of being unfit, just not being fit enough to play in the system we are trying to use. And his increased body weight only hinders his pace.

 

I think his increased body weight/muscle was because he is small and has no pace so upper body strength is a real asset needed and has benefited him and us as he can hold defenders off as he struggles to burst away from them..

I do agree that he may not fit ronnys style but we shouldn't be getting rid as i.believe he still has a place here..

Good squad player but he wouldn't be happy with that.

 

He tried to bulk up before the start of last season as he had been trying to emulate some foreigners he had played against,can't remember who, but he said they were small and stocky and impossible to get off the ball.
He is not overweight.
Why anyone would like to see the back of a player that can score 27 league goals in a season is beyond me,ok he is not firing on all cylinders so far this season but he will be back.All players go through form peaks and troughs.

 

It's nothing to do with his form this season. He's just never been a very good player. He scores goals but his all round play leaves a lot to be desired.

 

Squad player? 32 goals 14 assists and POTY only a matter of months ago mate. Come on to *.

 

Ronny has been praising him since he got here.

 

Good goalscorer, bit * at everything else. Don't mind him but he's slow as * and does lose the ball A LOT.

 

Perhaps, would be sad to let a player who has been as good for us as him,go..The fact he and his family love it here would lead me to think he'd stay and fight..

Was also a lot of talk of him looking in to a player coach role as he's an excellent mentor with the youths..

I want him to stay, yes he hasn't started great but it's early days and he hasn't become useless overnight, no chance..

I don't know where he fits in. McGregor isn't going to be dropped for obvious reasons. We've also just signed 3 attacking midfielders/wingers in Berget, Wakaso and Tonev. Plus we have Forrest who Ronny likes.

All of them for 3 positions.

 

In a 4-2-3-1 Commons is by far and away the best player for the 'hole'.

In a 4-3-3, I'd agree there's no real place for Commons.

 

Perhaps, I'd rather see McGregor in there. Based on current form as well.

His first touch is abysmal. As are his set pieces, which almost never make it past the first man. You notice these things a lot more in European competition (probably due to how * everyone else in the SPFL is).

 

McGregor aside Commons will be above any one of them in the pecking order as it stands. I can see why some get frustrated with his overall play at times (I have myself) but calling him a squad player is out of order frankly.
