I hate to sound all British but they are/were the biggest football shirt manufacturer, its even noted by Umbro that we were the first team to win the European Cup in Umbro shirts. All that history just closed by a stupid yank company.

    Rant over.:31:

Umbro was the original brand, if you like, synonymous with football in the 60's and 70's and had no real equal until Adidas came on the scene.

    Sad to see it go.

I'm sorry but umbro make and made * football gear. Nike and adidas are far superior. If we kept everything bad simply for the sake of tradition, men would be allowed to hit their wife and kids and you would be hanged for being gay. Just because something is historic doesn't mean it's not * nowadays :50:

I guess the only rival to Umbro in the 1970's was Admiral but they were British too so its no as if they were coming over from America and Germany taking away business.

Don't you remember the shirt a couple of years back that was made of plastic bottles and the proposed one for this year with holes all up the side.

    No competition

These shirts fall apart after having them on twice.

Nike and Adidas training gear etc is far superior to the Umbro stuff.

I enjoyed the Umbro range of Celtic gear, but I do genuinely love the stuff Nike have brought out - except that * hideous Yellow/Black away kit from last season............ghastly!

Nike gear falls apart in the washing machine, it's rubbish.

Tat is still tat, even if it's 'modern'.

Nowadays all brands are mass produced in sweatshops though, so it's a bit of a pointless debate. :smiley-laughing002:

The "recycled" shirt was a personal favourite of mines - thought it was great.

Also, what washing machines are you guys using? I've only ever had problems with ONE Celtic strip in my whole life, and that was the Umbro one that almost everybody had to return in either 98/99 or 99/00.

    Actually, it's this one:

I think I had that 1999/2000 one after it was recalled so I didn't have that problem, what i would say but is out of all my shirts its the umbro ones and early Nike ones which have have stayed in the best nick. ( I should really post them one day)

I handwashed my plastic bottle top and it still bobbled all over the place.

O.G Stubsy is correct,* Nike and their *-quality excuses for strips. The last few seasons I've had nothing but * shirts that get * up from just being worn or washed, they might look better than Adidas or Umbro, but the quality stinks.

    Don't Nike own Umbro?

Edit: They did up until last October.

Plus I don't know why Nike are copping it in the neck when it was Everton who gave permission for them to change it?
