Massively under appreciated. His return to the side coincided with our return to form. Adds something different and as the club captain drives the team on.

Broony is becoming the new Sammy on this forum. After every game Broony plays, you'll have the same group of people queuing up to slag him off. This in turn leads to the same group of people having to wade in and stick up for him. It's pretty repetitive.

As I've said before, I like Broony and think he's well worth his place in the team.

TBF Marky, I think the same thing has been going on almost since the second he signed.

He's never been universally popular, his "Broony" moment at the shitpit excluded.

So for Brown to keep his place in the side it would mean dropping Forrest or playing Forrest on the left as we know Lennon doesn't seem to like him playing in CM.Would people really be happy with that? For me having Forrest and Commons on the wings with Ledley/Ki and Wanyama in the middle would contribute more than having Brown in the side.

I would be delighted with Forrest on the left. Especially with Izzy back, it means that nobody can double up on either one on that wing without leaving one of our most potent threats unmarked. It's one of the reasons why we scored so many goals from left wing last season.

Having Brown on the right allows us to play 3 in the middle when our left winger is playing like an auxilliary attacker and still be solid. Don't get me wrong at times I would like Commons on the left and Forrest on the right but in the stronger games it has to be Brown. Hate playing with two wingers, we leave our centre midfielders completely stranded.

The fact that he's never been universally popular just goes to show how entrenched some people are in their views of him.

Scott Brown won the Players Player of the Year award while playing for Celtic, surely he would be universally popular after that? After all, you only win that award if you've played extremely well. Of course, we both know he wasn't.

I remember being at the St. Mirren v Celtic match that Paddy McCourt scored his wonder goal in. The abuse being dished out to Broony by the people around me was * poor. '* off Broon ya Hun' 'You only try when you play for Scotland ya *' etc etc etc

The scary thing is there are probably people who believe that stuff.

I find it hillarious you can say folk are entrenched in their views about Brown when there is no person on this forum more entrenched in their opinion of one player as you are with Sammy, Marky :56:

A lot of the criticism has been valid I think. Christ, I've done plenty of it myself in the past regarding Brown. Never been a real fan of him in the middle if I'm being honest, like him out on the right though, he's came on a lot since Lenny took charge. Totally agree that him on the right is a must in the tougher games.

Those kind of comments are of course an embarrassment, although tbh you'll find such abuse aimed in pretty much everyone's direction.

I can see the irony but, to be fair, I have said on more than one occasion that Sammy has played well recently and I've given him credit for doing so. I don't see that from the Broony 'haters'(hate that term :56:).

I'm not saying Broony should be immune from criticism, I just think some of the stuff aimed in his direction is flat out wrong and undeserved.

What you've said there, I agree with. I would call that valid and constructive criticisim.

If we're playing 4-4-2 then we shouldn't play Broony in central midfield. I don't think that's his best position either. If we're playing 4-4-2 we should always use him on the right side of midfield. If we were playing a 3 man central midfield then I think Broony could work well in that role also.

Dunno why people feel the need to have a scapegoat, something that has always baffled me (not all criticising of Broony is scapegoating but a lot of it is)

There are people on this forum who clearly just use Broony as a scapegoat, others like Hammer are fair in there criticism of him. People need to learn the difference sometimes between criticism and abuse.

I love Broony but I just can`t see where he fits into this midfield unfortunately. Who do we drop? If Commons doesn`t return to the player he was, I would perhaps have him on the right with wee Forrest on the left but it is unthinkable to drop the likes of Forrest, Wanyama or Ledley. Thought he had a very solid game against Dundee United especially in that second half where we needed someone to step up. Broony delivered imo

For me it isn't the best players automatically start, it's whatever works best as a team. Scott Brown makes the team tick.

This is exactly why a certain Korean someone isn't a first team pick.

That's why he isn't in my first team either, even though he is by far the most talented centre midfielder. Also why Paddy McCourt isn't there.

Thought he was terrible on Saturday, didn't have a clue how to link up with Matthews, didn't know whether to go short, long, play the overlap. Wouldn't make my starting 11 never mind giving him £20k+ a week!
