I actually think Broony could play CM well (and he did well there recently) but his mobility is wasted playing him as a pretty stationary lynchpin position such as Ledley or Wanyama play. He could play CM in a bigger MF in a 4-3-3 or a 3-5-2 where he didnt have to remain stationary in the middle. I definately think Broony is wasted in the CM when there are two wingers and its basically impossible for one CM to go forward much because it would leave just one CM holding the fort. We play 4-4-2 and I have come to the conclusion that the right side Broony role suits him and somehow it balances the side. Its not as sexy as having Forrest on the right and Sammy or COmmons on the left but I would only do that against the wee team at home. We can get away with it in those games but not in away games or against the better SPL teams at home.

I think Forrest was a big miss yesterday. Attack is the best defence and we lacked Forrest's threat yesterday.
I believe if he had played we would have scored more goals.

I dont think Lenny sees it that way. I think he recognises that 2 wingers is risky in all but the easiest games and will either play:

    Forrest-Ledley-Vic-Broony

    OR (less likely IMO)

    Ledley-Vic-Broony-Forrest

I think when Forrest is fit Sammy will compete for a striker spot.

I actually think my opinion is not far from Lenny's judging from his actions.

Why did you leave out my question about Browns place when Kayal is back? You went to the trouble of deleting it from my quote as well... :icon_mrgreen:

Shifting the best winger in the country onto his weaker flank to accommodate a vastly inferior footballer would be madness.

Brown is poor. "He drives the team on", no he doesn't. Beram Kayal does. Kayal, Wanyama and Ledley are all players who bring "dig and drive" to our midfield and still people want Brown in there as well? I'll always choose the creative, technically gifted footballers with talent over people with lots of stamina and anger issues.

Disagree, I think both Kayal and Wanyama are better than him. He's a great player, don't get me wrong, he's tidy, passes the ball well, has good positional sense and can tackle. However I unfortunately don't see a place for him in the team if Forrest, Kayal, Wanyama and Commons are all fit.

If he had been fit I think Lenny would have played

    ............Sammy-Hoops
    Forrest-Ledley-Vic-Broony

Lenny was aware Stokes was not right before the game and said so in an interview after. I have no doubt Stokes would have dropped out and Sammy played up front if Forrest had been fit. I think Forrest is a little better on the right but needs must and I think he is still great on the left.

Ledley does not bring drive. He is well behind Kayal, Broony and Ki in terms of pure drive and momentum. Ledleys game at Celtic is all about positional discipline, neat technique and safe ball retention. Granted Kayal has it all, combining attibutes of Broony, Ledley and Vic.

Much is true. Stokes didn't look up to it.
But even if Sammy and Forrest were on the wings I still think we would have won, maybe even by more.
But I agree with you here in general in that Brown had a decent game yesterday and wasn't pish by any means.

We won three titles in a row and 2 CL last 16s with wingers playing on the 'wrong side'. I personally think its improving Forrests game to learn both wings. Maloney, McGeady and Naka all have more medals from playing the wrong side than the entire current side put together.

The SPL title has often gone to the most athletic team. The amount of times Celtic teams with superior ball players have lost titles to Rangers over the years is unreal. You need a mix and Broony seems to provide an important and underrated element to Lenny's sides. We just dont look so capable of going on long winning runs when Broony has been out injured long term.

Of course we need a mix and Kayal and Wanyama are that mix. They're much better than Brown in regards to what he brings to the team. There's no room for him. He's being played because he is somehow the captain of Celtic, not because of any football ability, which is an utter disgrace.

I like Brown. Think he is underrated.

Main gripe is that his presence on the right forces Forrest onto the left where he's not as effective.

Yes there is. At the moment he's the weakest of the lot, so he would be on my bench.

Yeah Ledley is just about safe ball retention and neat technique.

That's why he has played for Celtic for a season and a half and he has already scored against the huns on 3 occasions. He is a quality, big game, footballer. Many, many times more talented than Brown.
