Magners is called Bulmers in Ireland, the Bulmers you get in Britain is now a different product. It's called Magners here because they don't have the rights to use the Bulmers name outside Ireland then the company who owned the rights to the Bulmers brand relaunched it as a competitor to Magners.

We could have had far worse sponsors than Magners.

Like many I don't drink it (by which I mean Bulmers) - although it would be my cider of choice on, say, a hot summer's day - but then I rarely drank Tennents either.

The best about this is that we no longer have the same shirt sponsor as the filth.

EDIT: Who all remembers that Magners used to sponsor Dundee?

C&C Group are an Irish company based in Dublin. I cant see them wanting to sponsor Sevco. Only way Sevco will be under sponsorship with them is if the companies they own like Magners, Tennants etc basically run themselves with their own budgets and Tennants decide to renew with Sevco. A company from the Republic of Ireland sponsoring Sevco would be like Sevco fans raising money for the IRA.

We signed our joint Tennents sponsorship a year after C&C took over Tennents.

    Kyogo. A phenomenon
I am at a loss as to where I referenced "tricking" anyone Trev; not intentional if so mate. I am simply saying that a lot of people will jump on the bandwagon regarding the supposed autonomous nature of a Tennents / Magners deal WERE IT TO HAPPEN whereas a hidden truth behind it would be the C&C ownership link.

The supporters groups wanted a full break - a clean break. A tennents / magners combo would be a halfway measure, but would not provide the full reaction the supporters groups were looking for; that being an entirely autonomous sponsorship deal to Sevco.

That is all I am saying. I am with you re the clean break - the board were very clear on that last year, and I have copy / pasted the quotes themselves numerous times during the months since.

However, there are some now opting to believe this would be a clean break even in the case of - as an example - Sevco / Tennents continuation, completely disregarding the C+C link in an effort to say "we don't need them and it's been proved today."

In the example above, the main aims of the supporters group (ie the clean break) would not have been achieved, no matter how anyone would like to paint it.

On that note cuntos, away out for a magners.:50:

That was my point, that the individual companies like Tennants must do their own work with their own budgets. So the Magners sponsorship will be different. Same as Nike owned Umbro when we had Nike and the Dead had Umbro, Nike if they wanted to could have made the Deads tops but Umbro must have still run as its own individual with its own budgets - I think Nike since sold them.

Magners, Bulmers, Tennents. It's all frying my brain, it's more money than the previous deal which is all that matters

So it's the same company but a different brand, doesn't really matter as long as it's a better deal than tennents.

Hopefully we'll avoid having a huge sponsorship plastered all over our shirt. We could do without the "Original" part for starters...

    But yes, fancy a Magners?
