Who mentioned formations? He was talking about attacking wide men :50:

Same difference. If you read gunts posts, that's what I'm getting at. We've tried the two wingers/two strikers and it does not work.

Last season, we found a formation which involved 3 central type players and we were almost unbeatable.

I was reading your post, you said 2 attacking wingers don't work and suggested the reason was football has changed.

I'm saying you are talking * and proved it by stating the best team in world football plays with 2 attacking wingers, fact.

Two v three in the middle of the park is a no no. We can't let it cost us points again. Back then all teams were much more attacking btw.

Yes it's not so much 2 attacking wingers per se, but more attacking wingers in a 4-4-2/4-2-4

The second part is implied (well, actually explicitly stated at points by gunt) with the Mowbray disaster and then at our worst points last season with Lennon.

If we continue with 2 up front, we should not be playing 2 attacking wingers.

(Barcelona are a bad example as they play a 4-3-3 system completely different to anything we've ever attempted)

    *edit*

and to bring this back on topic before I get a row :p

What the above means, is either:

    Commons.............................................
    ................Ki/Ledley....Kayal........Brown..

    or

    ............................................Commons.
    Ledley........Ki/Brown...Kayal...................

When do Barcelona play with 3 in the middle? It may be 4-3-3 by name but if they play Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta you don't exactly have 3 holding midfielders.

I think it's one holding midfielder, Busquets.

Jonathan Wilson calls 2011 Barca shape a 4-1-2-3

but I would call it 4-3-3 as holding midfielders are often considered part of the broader midfield.

They've always got a 3 v 3 in the middle of the park and we know how Messi and Pedro work back also. I'd love us to try this shape out although I don't think we have the correct attackers.

I like the look of the 4-3-3. Would mean either dropping Commons or using him as a striker which would probably be better cause Commons floats out of position a lot anyway hence scoring so many goals from midfield.

Id prefer Kayal - Ki - Brown though. Ki as our Steven Gerrard taking pop shots at goal whilst Brown and Kayal cover defensively. Ki and Kayals forward passing is extraordinary at times and lets not forget Brown had the highest assist rate of any midfielder in Celtic last year (SPL at least)

you are completely wrong mate you only need to look at last season we won most games when brown played and lost or drew most when he didn't play

i dont need to be reminded, about last year and the year before that.
but what i do know he aint a 5million pound player and he hasent had his hands on the leauge cup as a captain and if we have to suffer him this year again second place will be the norm, with all the draws as you say just now, he has been in 3 loosing sides so far. great start:bbpd:

9 time out of 10 we lose or draw without brown in the team. There is no doubt he hasn't live up to his hibs form but you need to take into account his family problems and injury problems. Last year he showed in glimpses what he was able to do and this season I expect a lot more from him individually but he is a great team player even when not playing well, he gives 100% every game and that has a great effect on the team it makes everyone perform to a higher standard
