i think his best position for us is right mid. to be honest if we played forrest there i think it would make wilson look a lot worse as the majority of the time he would be left one on one with a winger. brown offers a good work rate and allows wilson to get forward

this is also a big reason i would keep him

Exactly. That's why we need to get him punted, or give someone else the armband.

Same problem we had with McManus - guy who is captain but is not good enough to merit a 1st team place.

I'd not be in favour of punting him immediately, it's a bad time to sell with only one year on his current deal - but let's get him signed to a new extended contract, give him a bit longer, and then punt him in january or next summer.

There is only so long a player of Ki's ever-increasing calibre will put up with being left out the team in favour of a lesser player. And if we lose Ki we will regret it.

That's exactly the type of character I see him as. He likes * people off. He throws the proverbial dummy in most games when he gets booked for some act of petulance, because the opposition player forgot he was Scott Brown.

    That is our best midfield.

I think Brown has more attributes to his game than fans give him credit for. That's three Celtic managers in a row who have seen enough in him to make him a first team regular.

He had a poor season under Mowbray but one thing people always say about him is that he has great energy. He does a lot of the under appreciated engine room work in midfield that some people may not notice. For example, his pace, strength and drive is very useful for carrying the ball up the field to take the pressure off the defence and possibly set up and attack. He has more technical ability than people give him credit for too as he actually has very quick feet. He's a good ball winner for us too, which is an important job which is also often forgotten about by fans.

The people who play against him voted him Players Player of The Year too so that's more people who can see his ability.

Was there not also a statistic last season where we barely lost in the league when he played?

He and Lennon seem to have a good relationship and I feel that Lennon will bring out his best qualities.

I call this the 'Tony Mowbray' formation and Ki's much better than Ledley.

You might as well call it the Sir Alf Ramsey formation, cos Ledley, Kayal and Commons didn't arrive till after Mowbray left. :56:

Think he's referring to playing with two attacking wingers.

I rate brown as a decent player but he is just not good as ki kayal or ledley in the center mid position. I think its his job this season to keep his posotion in the right mid ahead of forrest

just because we have a good 5 midfeilders to fit 4 positions doesnt mean we have to 'punt' any of them! depending on what type of game it is they all bring different qualities.

we dominate midfield when Brown in on the right wing. he isnt the fanciest of footballers and until last season i never rated him but his energy and work rate was a big factor in our team dominating others last season.

he still captained the team to second place!

there was an interview after a huns game on sky, and he and mark wilson were interviewed, from that interview any stranger would automatically assume wilson was captain as opposed to the far away screw loose eyes and quite dreadful monotone responses from the actual captain of our club.

i would certainly have him before hype man forrest who doesnt do it for me, but automatic starting slot and captaincly for brown is a nonsense.

Kayal as an enforcer and player, who puts himself about a fair bit, makes brown look like a primary seven bully in the primary one playground. kayal can play and he can take the stick and give it out without the need for contorted faces and endless stupid bookings

who would you rather award a top contract to? kayal or brown

it doesnt mean sell him, but i would make kayal captain or mark wilson for that matter and let brown fight for his place

My solution isn't good for Ledley

    Commons...........................
    ...............Ki....Kayal...Brown.

With Ledley as immediate backup for either Ki, Kayal or Brown. Surely that still equates to a decent number of games?

Think that video just showed what he doesn't do enough of really.
I've been hot and cold with Brown but after last season he really stepped up and showed his worth, at last.
So I feel we should stick him on the right where he played his best last season. It adds more strength to the midfield and more cover to the RB.

Yeah I prefer him on the right instead of in the centre too. However if we were to play a 5 man midfield I'd be happy to have him in the centre.

Same. If we were playing 5 in midfield, it would have to be, for me, 3 cm's and 2 wingers making that 5 up. Which Brown is more than capable of doing. THink it might be Brown's probelm playing in a 2 man CM because of the amount of chasing he does it can leave us very exposed. But with 3 CM's, 1 can sit back and sweep up, one can chase and one can be more creative.Even with the choice of any 3 cm's they can all inter change their duties. They are all good enough after all

Best balanced MF in 2 or 3 years. Cant believe the lack of football knowledge of people going for

    Commons-Ledley-Kayal-Forrest or the like

That sort of lineup combined with attacking FBs has cost us dear at times. That was used in our pishy pre-XMas run and we all came to the conclusion that it was too attacking a lineup and Lenny realised this too by Xmas. People forget what a mess we looked at times using that sort of lineup.

We looked vastly more solid defensively with Broony playing almost like a third CM on the right. Maybe against weaker SPL sides but that is all. The Celtic dream of two wee wingers, flying FBs and creative CMs has rarerly worked. In fact it makes you appreciate the fact that Strachan somehow managed to pull it off for three years. However, that was an exception and was only achievable by a very ridgid disciplined style of keep-ball. When you lose the ball with that sort of formation it is too easy to be cut open. In a better league that lineup would be absolutely torn to ribbons.

The Commons-Ledley-Kayal-Brown lineup is the first Celtic midfields in a few years that I could see not embarrising themselves at a higher level. We must stick to that sort of lineup. It is the best part of our team and IMO stumbling on that MF is Lenny's greatest achievement as a manager. Lets put it this way, forget the stats, our defense last year was 2nd rate and not on the same level as the MF. If it were not for that super-solid MF four I think we would have shipped tons of goals.
