It's not so important worrying about Juve's system or Pirlo. Football is not just about one thing or one player. The zonal marking system might just cause Juve some problems. If you want to stop Pirlo, putting one player on him won't work, you need to make sure Pirlo can't drop deep unmarked. When we win the ball, someone needs to be on hand to provide a clear option for a forward pass, drifting either side of Pirlo into space, and attempting through-balls.

So you force him to work in much deeper zones than he would like.

Pirlo is immaculate in possession, but his weakness is obvious and that is defending.

So the midfield is the first battle zone, the second is between the wing backs, when they don't have the ball they will compress the midfield and it leaves spaces on the flanks and this is where they can look disorganized.

This is why Lenny wants a left back - a winger. It's why Samaras is now being played out their in his most natural position. You could see yesterday he meant business and i believe this was Lenny beginning to prepare the team for the Juve game.

Another possible way to hit them is long diagonal balls from Charlie Mulgrew to Forest to switch the angle of attack. Forcing Juve to shuffle over to the other side of the park, leaving spaces in midfield.

The one thing they won't like is hitting them with sheer speed and i reckon we'll go and get someone for left back that has this immediate threat on the counter.

So we need to have an extra man in midfield and that comes from playing maybe not an out and out striker up front, but someone like Kayal. Lenny tinkered with having him up their for 2 games, or at least for parts of the two games. Nobody really noticed, but what he was trying to do was have a wee test to see if we could play Kayal up their in the same way Fabregas did with Spain.

Narrowed the wide midfielders to win the numbers game in the centre. then advanced the full-backs to stretch the play.

Lenny isn't stupid, he wouldn't admit it, neither would his number 2 yesterday, but we are already planning in detail, and practicing our system for the Juve game, albeit in the league when we don't have to sit in as much.

If you want to stop Pirlo you surround him. I'm guessing the first thing Lenny thought about was the two Spain games in the Euros. Spain sussed out how to nullify his threat and the first game was 1-1, the final was an absolute rout, 4-0.

Basically you have someone behind Pirlo, someone in front, someone left and someone right. One player has to be on him right away and stop him getting the ball to the forwards early enough. We can do this at home and defend for our lives away.

Haha, or we could go out and lose badly:)

4 man around Pirlo and Asamoah,Marchisio,Vidal and Lichsteiner free to do whatever they want and as soon as they run to the others in juventus midfield to press, Pirlo will be free and they will pass him the pall or let Vucinic handle it up front with Marchisio and Vidal push it in the net XD

Such things aren't useful... like that Italy thing.
Spain succeded in the 1-1 to counter Pirlo simply because that's how they play in Barcelona = heavy pressing till when they recover the ball that's their wonder! not planning Pirlo out simply perm ultra pressing on every man in the midfield.

The 4-0 if you watched the game was due to Italy weariness and that's Prandelli's fault cause even if he knew some players were not fit to play at high level he prefered his usual set up instead of letting fresh players as starters ;(

I'll leave the tactics to both management teams. We're here to support our teams. All I'll say is, Juve are clear favourites. However, it will be a lot closer than a lot of people might think and Celtic have a far better chance of getting through than most people are giving us.

It's not four men all on Pirlo at all, it's a 4-3-2-1 formation and it's how we've played every game so far.

I don't see what the big deal is, do you honestly think i meant put four players directly on Pirlo? Good grief. It's Hooper, say, on one side of Pirlo, a midfielder in front of him, one narrow left, one narrow right, 3 holding midfielders and a back 4 with wing backs.

It's really not a big deal, this is how we play. We played it against Barca and we played it defensively, but we can also use it in attack to press the game and it'll be interesting to see if we do.

It's all in here dude: http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/07/02/spain-4-0-italy-euro-2012-tactics/

nope... you're tied only if you play in the same cup.
So if you played for EL you're avaible for CL

To be fair he did simply point out that Juventus are a good team and he would expect them to go through but it's still quite disrespectful.

Really hope we ram it right up them. Two similar Barca performances and we can do it. :50:

I think the deal for Llorente is for him to move to Juve in the Summer.
