I would much rather they pretended they cared about fair play than to not at all.

But NOT punishing someone who does this also sets a precedent for another player to do the exact same...and then another, which by that time you may as well just throw the Fair Play standards out the window.

Serious (but hypothetical at the same time) question, mate, but would you still find it hilarious if it happens against us when we play Spartak Moscow next week resulting in a loss for us and putting us out of the last 16?

    I know I wouldn't.

Of course, I would be annoyed. But that's football.

Let me put it this way. Benfica are drawing with Barcelona. Celtic are drawing with Spartak Moscow. One of our players scores a goal like this that sends us to the last 16 of the champions league. Would you get this worked up?

    I know I wouldn't.

Too lenient with the punishment imo but fair * for doing something about it.

I agree with everyone saying it's hillarious as it is, however, I put myself in the shoes of the opponents fans. If some * did that to Celtic this site would want him burnt at the stake and that is a fact. A correct one at that as he is a lowlife for even contemplating doing it.

So when was the last time they banned someone for diving for a penalty? UEFA talk big and yet do nothing of any importance, even in the context of the 90 minute game itself.

It's not football, it's cheating. It's * vile and a 1 match ban is letting him off lightly.

Was the goal chopped off? No. It's football. It happened. Some people might not agree with what he done, but it still happened.

Just because it wasn't chopped off doesn't mean it's not cheating. Did Henry cheat against Ireland ? * right he did.

He broke the unwritten rule, recognised all across the globe. An uncontested drop ball back to the keeper and this * decided to take this opportunity to score a cheap goal. That's not what sport's about.

Shaktar needed to win to get through to the last 16. They are a group with the European champions and the Italian champions. Of course they are going to take any chance they can get to qualify. If it were Celtic in a similar position, I doubt there would be this massive uproar.

There would and I'm not even sure whether or not I'd celebrate. Why even bother with sport at all if you aren't going to recognise good sporting conduct.

Are you kidding me? If it was the difference between last 16 football (something we have only had twice and not for 5 years.) and no European football, you wouldn't be happy?

    * that. I know I'd celebrate.

So you'd be annoyed if it happened against us and that goal putting us out, but you'd be happy enough to go through that way? Sorry but I think that's pretty hypocritical because that is pretty much saying that things like that are ok - as long as you're not on the receiving end.

Even though I'd like us to be in the last 16, I wouldn't celebrate a goal like that and to be honest I'd be pretty embarrassed about it. I'd like to think that our players have a lot more class & dignity NOT to do something so low in the first place. Even Adriano's team mates never celebrated with him. What does that tell you.

    * like that is always funny until it happens to them, then it's a totally different story.

    Totally agree.

They should ban players who cheat - period. That is why I was glad that they banned Adriano for this act - UEFA took a stance against it. While he never cheated per say, he should have done the honourable thing and not score. He knew what was going on and it was a disgusting act of unfair sportsmanship.

    He didn't cheat.....

If you were to ban everyone who cheated, u'd be banning every player that pretends to be injured to waste time, every goalie that wastes time, every defender/attacker who fouls at corners etc.

....and i don't think eduardo got banned for diving, pretty sure they appealed it and got off.

I can't believe people are actually defending what this guy did. It was totally against the spirit of the game and sport in general.

If you read my post properly I went on to say....

....so I know Adriano never cheated in the true sense of the word but he may as well have because to score a goal like that us underhanded so it's not far off cheating.

Actually, thinking about it, in a way he did cheat. Cheating is "an immoral way of achieving a goal". If what Adriano did isn't "an immoral way of achieving a goal" then I don't know what is.

If it meant that my team got through to the last 16 of the Champions League, of course I would be happy. Anyone who says otherwise is lying or incredibly stupid.
