I couldn't disagree more. Against Barca you know how they are coming at you, the ball is not going to be thrown in - even in the last minute, and although it is extremely difficult they can be beaten by a team playing out of their skins at the back and breaking. Benfica are totally different, they have a dominant centre forward and decent wingers, the ball could come into the box from anywhere, which will cause different problems. We will also have a lot more possession than we did a couple of weeks ago, so will need to do something with it.

I have said this on here time and time again, and I really believe it, the key to us performing is the tempo we play at. Sometimes we get slow and lacklustre (against St Johnstone last week for example) and struggle, whereas when we pass quickly and move up the pitch with confidence we are capable of scoring heavily. Tonight we need to get the ball to Sammy and let him drive us forward, with the full backs in support.

I think we could win this game, but if we play in the same way we did against Barca I think Benfica will beat us.

Out of curiosity, are spartak allowed to draft in a goalkeeper that wasn't registered on their list for the CL or do they have to play an outfield player in goals?

I think (though not entirely sure) that if you have injuries to your keepers, you are given dispensation to bring a keeper in as its considered a specialist position.

see Benfica have joined Spartak Moscow in mouthing off on us before a ball is even kicked; don't these teams ever learn? at least some of the Barca squad only spat the dummy out after we'd beaten them! :icon_mrgreen:

I still think we'll lose narrowly tonight but as ever by kick off time (and with a few pints in me!) i'll be confident of a win!

I have been trying to find this out as well........hopefully not. An 18-0 Barca win would be fine.

They will end up with some 17 year old in the goals. Someone who's yet to play for the first team and is making his debut against Barcelona in the CL, they'll get beat 18-0 anyway ha.

    Wow!

I dare say he has a better record in Europe than Strachan ......and possibly O'Neill as well?
