agudelo has done nothing so far in the mls to prove that he is good enough for celtic playing at club level so far in his career he has 10 goals in 62 games. In the exact same amount of games montero has scored 25 goals for the sounders (not counting his loan spell there where he was slightly more prolific). Agudelo doesn't have anywhere near the skill of montero but is a more powerful striker who would probably score more with his head due to his physique. Personally I wouldn't want either here because I don't think agudelo is good enough and I have my doubts about whether he ever will be. Montero on the other hand is one of the better players in the mls and would probably make a good addition to the squad but might not be worth it due to our surplus of strikers and the high fee it would most likely take to get mls to part with one of their stars. If i were lenny I would stand pat and give more game time to watt who i believe is a better prospect than agudelo and if we are really intent on breaking the american market then I would purchase terrence boyd, who has proven himself in austria this season.

Depends on how much he'd cost, if you could get him for 1.5 million, could be good business with one eye on next season.

Didn't he just sign for Chivas this year?

As long as he isn't too expensive, take him. Everyone was all for Milik signing for £3 million, he is 18 and not done much. Plays for a pish team, but broke into a good international team. A bit like Agudelo.

Milik was leading scorer in the Polish league for most of the season, which is a pretty decent standard at least compared to the MLS (rated higher than the Scottish league by UEFA coefficient). This year he has scored 1 in 2 in the Polish league which is notoriously low scoring.

Agudelo on the other hand only scored four goals all of last season in the MLS. He is also from what I have seen far less skillful than Milik. Milik has the potential to be the next Lewandowski, agudelo's ceiling is much lower.

Agudelo is 6'1..and in his last appearance for the U.S. he set up two goals in a very typical target man fashion...

And he has ridiculous marketing potential..(as well as playing potential)

I'm struggling to see what more milik could have done to impress you. He was the lead goalscorer in the polish league for large parts of the season and was playing for zabrze which makes that achievement even more remarkable. Agudelo on the other hand has struggled mightily in the last year. He was hailed as the next great american soccer player after scoring against south africa in a friendly after the world cup and then he scored against argentina but since then he has struggled to live up to the hype and had not been called up for over a year prior to the friendly against russia. The two players are similar in the same way that lewandowski and altidore are similar. They both come from countries with mediocre national teams at the minute (although poland are becoming a force to be reckoned with) and came from teams that weren't all that great but thats where the similarities end. Lewy is a much better player than altidore just as milik is much better than agudelo Milik has the potential to go on and become a world class strker and its a shame that we couldn't get him. Agudelo has potential too but he needs to start finding the net before he makes a move abroad and I don't think celtic where he might end up as the 7th or 8th choice striker is the place for him to do that.

I'm impressed by Milik, can't say I knew anything about him until he was linked with us, I doubt many people had. However I've seen Agudelo, I've seen his potential. He is developing a lot slower than I'd like, but I believe unlike Adu, he will reach the potential he is supposed to. Altidore is only just reaching his potential, so is Eddie Johnson. It seems to take time for the Americans. Anyway, Milik and Agudelo are completely different players. I wasn't comparing them, I was just comparing the hype. I'd want to bring in Agudelo for £1.5-£2 million as much as I'd like to have got Milik for £3 million. Some people on here seemed overly keen to bring in an 18 year old player they knew nothing about for £3 million, which is a lot of money for us.

Old post, but I think it's worth mentioning that there's absolutely no way MLS would let him go for 1.5-2m.

On Sky Sports Transfer Centre just now :

Sky Sports understands Celtic are closing in on the signing of United States international Juan Agudelo.

The Chivas USA man linked up with Celtic for a training stint in November as he tried to secure a move to a European club during the Major League Soccer close season.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents in America and has attracted the interest of a number of clubs across Europe.
Celtic are hoping to win the race for Agudelo after he impressed Neil Lennon and his coaching staff during his time on trial.

Lennon is keen to bolster his attacking options in this month's transfer window and they have now made an offer to Chivas as they look to bring the Colombian-born forward to Celtic Park.

    [EDIT]

Just seen Victor beat me too it, sorry Victor.

If he's impressed the backroom-staff here then that's good enough for me. Not too sure of him either way but if he's a good player then why not?

Anyone who watches MLS regularly - what is his main strength? Someone pointed out in another post that we sign players who have one particular strength and then try to develop them into a more complete footballer - Mulgrew, for instance, had a world class delivery, Wilson had pace, Hooper was a natural finisher, Wanyama had superhuman strength :smiley-laughing002:. I can't really see what it is with Agudelo - he certainly isn't a prolific goalscorer like Hooper. And you might say the MLS is a higher level of football or whatever but 6 goals in 33 for NY Red Bulls and 3 in 20 for Chivas isn't a good return in any league for a striker. Does he play just of the striker or is he a centre-forward? Not sure how quick he is either or what his passing ability/vision/dribbling ability is like. Certainly doesn't look like a physical player. Just can't really see what he's bringing to the table.

Edit: I'm not saying that he doesn't look like a good player, by the way, just wondering what his stand out quality is and how he'd improve the team we have currently.

Only 20 and 16 caps for the U.S national team already, there's obviously potential there.

im guessing if he comes in then a striker will go out , maybe miku sent back plus we also have bangura back and stokes. so that will be 8 strikers if you include sammy and this guy coming in

Not sure how I feel about this. I've seen him play and he's been up and down. Still young though so could be another gem. In Lenny (and John Park) I trust!

Excited about this one, seems very confident and even though its only youtube videos he has a great instinctive eye for goal, few acrobatic finishes.

Marketing potential for the growing popularity of football in America is massive aswell.
